“I didn’t let her know he was coming just in case it didn’t work out. She is so happy right now,” Marlow says.
“You sure you’re okay watching both of them out here? It’s cold.”
“I run hot when I’m pregnant. This feels good.”
I grin at her. “You look adorable with that little baby bump.” I wrinkle my nose. “Is that okay to say? Should I not acknowledge the baby bump?”
“When I’m a whale I might not want you to acknowledge it, but you’re still safe right now.” She laughs and I nod, laughing.
“Got it.”
“The last I saw everyone, they were heading toward that lift and going all the way up to the top.” She points to the lift to the left of us.
I turn to look and see Felicity by the lift, looking our way. My heart does a weird flip just seeing her and another when she waves.
“Thanks, Marlow. I’ve got my phone on me, so call or text if you need me.”
“I’ll keep a close eye on him,” she promises.
I set my skis down and click them into place, and then I ski toward Felicity.
“Hello,” she says.
She’s smiling, but her eyes are reserved.
“Hi. It’s really good to see you.”
“You too.”
“You going up or are you done for the day?”
“I’m going up. I took a bathroom break and told everyone I’d catch up.”
“Perfect timing for me.”
Her lips pucker like she’s trying to hold back a bigger smile. We move toward the chairlift and wait while a few people get on before us. She looks hot as hell in her blue ski outfit. It makes her eyes stand out.
Once we’re on the lift, I look over at her. “How’ve you been?”
“Good. How about you?”
I groan. “I don’t want to talk about me. Tell me about you.”
“Well, I’ve been hanging out with your family a ton. It’s been a lot of fun actually…made the time go by faster. I’ve been to all the houses, met all the animals—I’m obsessed. Oh my God, when Delgado rides on Lucia’s back, I can’t take it. The only thing cuter was watching you and Owen bundling each other up a few minutes ago.” She gives me a side-eye smile.
I laugh. “You saw that, huh?”
“I’m so glad I didn’t miss it.”
“Why didn’t you come say hi?”
Her cheeks are pink from the cold, but they turn even brighter. “I don’t know. I wasn’t a hundred percent sure Tracy wasn’t with you, and I didn’t want to be in the way.”
“You being in the way was never the issue. I didn’t want you to have to deal with Tracy’s toxicity.” I face her and she won’t look at me. “Hey, you believe me, right?”
“Yeah, if you say that’s what it was, I’ll believe you.”
“That’s all it was. I’m sorry that I made you feel otherwise.”
