“You won’t see me going there, either,” Doc said.
“What about you, mate?” Taz lifted his chin in Ezra’s direction. “Think you’ll ever do it again?”
Ezra looked across the room at Sasha, who was talking with a gaggle of girls by the dance floor. “If the right girl came along, I do believe I would.”
Doc narrowed his eyes. “That right?”
He’d been getting weird vibes from Doc all night. “Yeah, I think so. You really don’t ever want to get married?”
Doc scoffed. “Nope. I don’t need the headaches that go along with relationships.”
“The right girl might change your mind,” Ezra said.
“Don’t waste your breath,” Cowboy said. “Doc’s about as anti-relationship as a guy can get. I, on the other hand, cannot wait to get my girl home tonight. So, how about we do that shot?”
They picked up their glasses and Dare said, “Here’s to the best thing that can happen to you, bro. To Cowboy’s ball and chain.”
They all lifted their glasses and said, “To Cowboy’s ball and chain,” and drank their shots.
“Congratulations, Dare.” Ezra clapped Dare on the shoulder and pulled him into an embrace. “If ever there were two people destined to be together, it was you two.”
“Thanks, man,” Dare said. “And thanks for letting your little guy be our ring bearer.”
Ezra said his goodbyes, and as he walked away, Doc sidled up to him and grabbed his upper arm. “We need to talk.”
Ezra yanked his arm free as they walked out of the tent. “What the hell, Doc? What do you think you’re doing?”
“Stopping you from breaking my sister’s heart.”
Fuck.He tried to play it cool. “What are you talking about?”
“I saw her sneaking out of your place when I was coming home last night.”
“We—”
“Save it,” Doc bit out. “I’m not fucking stupid. What are you thinking? Tiny’s the president of the club, and you’re fucking around with his daughter.”
Ezra squared his shoulders, anger rising inside him. “It’s none of Tiny’s business who I’m sleeping with, and it’s none of yours, either. But it’s not what you think.”
“What Ithinkis that you’re in there spewing bullshit about marriage while you’re sneaking around with my sister like she’s some cheap trick.”
All of his pent-up anger roared out, and he got in Doc’s face. “Don’t youevertalk about her that way. I care about Sasha, and I’mtryingto protect my son.”
“You’re supposed to be loyal to the brotherhood.”
“Iamfucking loyal to the club, but Gus willalwayscome first,” he gritted out. He saw Sasha watching them from the entrance to the tent. “Listen, I’m trying to figure things out, so I’m asking you, brother to brother, to trust that I would never do wrong by Sasha and to mind your own business. But you do what you need to do.” He stalked back toward the tent, feeling like he was going to explode.
Sasha rushed out. “What was that about?”
“He saw you leaving my place last night.”
“Shit.I thought that I saw his truck.”
“He’s pissed. He might tell your father.”
“Like hell he will.” She stormed toward her brother. “Doc!”
Doc turned around, and Ezra went after her, but she was already giving him hell.
