Page 11 of Say I Do

I needed to talk to Skye.

She was being weird and distant and I didn’t fucking like it. I thought about letting her figure it out on her own like Bash suggested, but that was a stupid idea. If she was having a problem with Koda or me, she needed to talk to me about it.

I knocked on Skye’s door then opened it before she called out. She screeched and threw her body over something on the floor. I stood in the doorway as I stared down at her, shocked.

“What are you doing?” I asked. She was staring up at me with wide eyes, her chest heaving.

“Nothing,” she breathed. “Get out.”

“Excuse me?” I said, lifting my brows at her.

“Please,” she added quickly. “Please get out, Daddy.”

“Better,” I said, “but still rude. What are you hiding?”

“Nothing!” She yellowed. “Now, please. Get. Out!”

I stayed standing in the doorway, her brows furrowed as she glared up at me. “Skye,” I said, but she just pointed at the door. My shoulders slumped as I took a step back, closing the door.

What the fuck?

Maybe I should’ve forced her to talk to me, to show me what she was hiding, but… Fuck. I didn’t know what to do! She’d never acted like that before.

“Have you talked to Skye?” I asked as I walked into our bedroom. Koda was sitting crossed-legged on the bed, the laptop in front of her.

“No,” she said slowly, looking up from the screen. “Why?”

“She just kicked me out of her room.” I rubbed my jaw, my long stubble scratching my palm as I paced in front of the bed. Koda tilted her head to the side as she looked at me.

“This is really bothering you, isn’t it?” She asked and I gave her an exasperated look as I paused my pacing.

“Of course, it is,” I scoffed. “Does it not bother you to know she’s upset?”

“I don’t think she’s upset about anything,” she said slowly. “When we had breakfast this morning, she acted fine. She didn’t seem upset to me.”

“Maybe I did something,” I said and Koda sighed as she slid off the bed. She slowly approached me, her loose top billowing as she walked.

“You haven’t done anything, Ax,” she said as she put her hand on my chest. “She’s growing up and things have been really chaotic lately. Give her time.”

I dropped my head back, closing my eyes as I let out a long breath. I knew she was right. I knew I was focusing too much on this, but whatever Skye was going through, she was going through it alone. And I didn’t like it. I wanted to be there with her, for her, so she knew she was never alone. So she knew she always had me.

“Time,” I repeated. Koda pressed a kiss to the center of my chest.

“Time,” she said.

ADDIE

“What do you think of this one?” Skye asked as she held up a white flowy dress. Addie studied it for a moment, pretending to think really hard about it.

“I like it,” she finally said, nodding. “What shoes?”

“She doesn’t need shoes,” Skye scoffed, looking at her like she was an idiot. Addie bit her lip to hide her smile. “Do you think she’s gonna figure it out?”

“She might know something’s up, but I doubt she’ll suspect anything before,” Addie said and Skye let out a long breath.

“And Heather is gonna help?” She asked and Addie nodded.
