When we hear a knock on the door, I say, “That’s probably Blanche. Let me go get it.”
I open the door to Blanche. “Hey! Hey! I’m here to help, I even brought wine,” she says holding up the bottle in her hand.
“Come on in. Ella and I are in the backpacking up my room,” I say as I step out of the way making room for her to come in.
We both make our way back to the room to pack. I point to Ella. “Blanche, this is Ella. Ella, this is Blanche. Blanche is Zeev’s wife.”
Ella smiles at Blanche. “Nice to meet you. Mikhail talks highly of your husband.”
“Blanche brought us wine, Ella. Would you like a glass?”
She laughs. “You know I do.”
I run to the kitchen and pour each of us a glass of wine. Blanche and Ella follow me and they each grab a glass.
“It’s so nice to finally have friends in the city,” I say.
It’s been a few weeks since the whole fiasco with Paul, and I’m finally starting to feel more like myself. Jake introduced me to a therapist, and I started meeting with her a few days later.
I don’t shrink in fear anymore with every sound. I believe that Blanche and Zeev are leaders of The Wolves and aren’t trying to take me back into captivity. That was where most of my fear came from, always feeling like I needed to look over my shoulder.
I still don’t want to see my parents. I’ve been working on forgiving them with my therapist, so I don’t hold that anger within me anymore. I don’t even know if they’re still alive, and I don’t want to know.
“I can’t wait till you guys meet my friend Suri. You’re going to love each other,” Ella says, bringing me back into the present.
My chest fills with joy and love. I haven’t had this in a long time, people around me who love me for me. And even then it was only Jake, always Jake.
“I can’t wait to meet her either. When does she come back from California?”
“In a few weeks,” Ella answers.
“Okay, okay, ladies. Jake is going to be here soon. Let's get back to packing,” I tell them.
A few hours later, we’re interrupted by the sexiest man walking through my door. Zeev and Mikhail follow him in, walking toward their ladies.
He gives me a kiss and when he pulls away, he says, “Hey, sunshine.”
“Hey,” I whisper.
“The movers are on the way. Are you ready to go? I can’t wait to take you home.”
“Home,” I sigh.
“Yeah, home, sunshine.”
Zeev and Blanche say goodbye first, followed by Mikhail and Ella. “I’ll see you at work tomorrow,” she says as she walks out the door.
When everyone is gone, Jake entangles his fingers with mine, pulling me out the front door of what used to be my apartment. A few minutes later, we pulled up in front of what is now our home. Entering it, I feel a sense of safety, something I’ve wanted my whole life.
“Welcome home, baby,” Jake says as he wraps his arms around my waist pulling me against him. When I’m flush against him, I can feel his cock thicken.
He leans over, kisses me, and whispers against my lips, “Let's get married.”
“What?”
He looks deep into my eyes, rubbing his hand against the side of my face. “Amber, I've been searching for you as long as I can remember. Now that I finally have you, I don’t want to wait any longer. Tomorrow, let's go down to the courthouse and get married.”
I don’t have any other words for him except, “Yes.”
