“If I can see you, you can see us, Rayne.”

“It’s too much.”

She sighed. “You’re not making this easy.”

“Says the woman not wearing a headdress. I don’t want to hide my face.”

She shook her head then snapped her fingers. “I’ve got it!”

“What?”

“Lilly, get that off of her. Where’s the birdcage?”

“You want me to wear a birdcage on my head?” This was getting a little too Extreme Runway for my blood.

“It’s a veil style. Very chic. Very understated.” She returned a moment later with a small scrap of beaded lace. “Come here.”

I tipped my head forward and she did her magic. The moment the veil was attached I looked in the mirror and I was in love. It was simple, vintage lace, sewn wide enough not to cover my face but still add an element of mystique.

“That’s it. Nothing else.”

“You still need shoes and a garter belt. The closest I have to flats are two-and-a-half-inch heels.”

Ugh. I was going to break my face in heels. “I can get shoes somewhere else.”

That earned a scowl.

“I want to be able to walk down the aisle, Phina.” Especially since my dad wouldn’t be there to hold me up.

She huffed. “Fine, but I forbid you to wear flip-flops.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s your wedding day!”

I rolled my eyes. “Whatever. Ring me up.”

“You need a garter.”

I didn’t object to the useless accessory because Hale mentioned finding them sexy. I looked forward to watching him pull it off with his teeth—when we were alone of course.

She led me to a glass display. “The gown shows a lot, so you’ll want a discreet design. Pick one from this side.”

I was more drawn to the simpler styles anyway. “That one?”

“Perfect.” She removed it from the display and handed it to me. “Make sure it fits.”

While she examined the shoe selection, I slipped the lace garter onto my head like Olivia Newton-John and began to aerobicize, doing my own rendition of Let’s Get Physical.

Phina laughed. “You’re so opposite from Hale.”

I grinned and kept dancing. “I know. That’s why he loves me.”

She grinned and studied me for a moment. “You look really pretty. Even while wearing a garter on your head and dancing like an idiot.”

“Not wanting to crush my veil, I removed the garter and slipped it under my dress. I couldn’t believe I was asking this… “Can I wear the gown a little longer?”

Phina smiled. “Of course.” She adjusted the garter.
