I walked over to a cabinet and grabbed one of my spare shirts for her.
“Charlotte, you have nothing to apologize for, he is the fucking asshole. Call security. Also, call the police if you wish to press charges. I will fully back you. He cannot get away with this.”
“I’ll call security, but no police. I’m sure he didn’t mean to. I know it’s a tough time for you all now.”
She started to say more, but I needed to get my scumbag brother out of there.
Storming out of my office, I saw the pathetic excuse of the man with his feet up on Charlotte’s desk, reclining back in her chair. I must have blacked out as the next thing I knew, I was running at him and landed a punch straight to his jaw, sending him flying off the chair.
Slowly, he staggered back to his feet.
“What the fuck was that for?” he slurred, drunk.
“First, you assaulted Charlotte. I’ve told her to call the police, but luckily for you, she won’t. I can assure you if you ever come within one meter of her again, I will destroy you. Second, I never want to see you in this building again. You pathetic piece of shit.”
Julian then ran at me, trying to tackle me to the ground and take us both down. I got him into a headlock to gain back control. He landed a few body shots, but his strength waned with the growing pressure I applied to his neck. After a few more cheap swings, he finally gave up just as security burst through the doors and hauled him to his feet. His mouth was bleeding, and I could see his jaw starting to bruise.
“Of course, Mr. Perfect gets everything he wants. Father’s love, now his company. You don’t deserve it.”
“And you think you do? Have you seen the state of yourself? All you ever care about is yourself. You have a drinking and inferiority problem. Are you telling me father would be proud of you if he could see you right now? Sober up. Not just for the funeral tomorrow. Please do it for good. Become the man father always thought you could be.”
I took a step closer, hoping to make him understand. Instead, he spat in my face.
I used my shirt to wipe my face clean and then directed my attention to the security guards holding Julian.
“Please escort him out of the building, take any keys and passes he has, and inform all staff that he is not allowed entry unless authorized by me. And should he try to gain access when I am not here or cause a scene, you are to restrain him and call the police. Are those instructions clear?”
“Yes, sir.”
Walking back to my office, I found Charlotte standing by the door.
“Please, take a seat. Which of the other PAs are you closest to?”
“I’m not sure I understand what you mean?”
“I’d like you to call who you are closest to and send them out to grab you some new clothes. And if you’d like, you can take the rest of the week off.”
“That is very kind of you, but I always have a spare outfit just in case I need to change into that. Also, it isn’t as bad as it looks. I can assure you that I’ll be fine.”
“Are you one hundred percent sure? It’s fine if you want to have a few days rest. Also, if you change your mind about calling the police, I fully understand and will help and support you.”
“Thank you, sir, but I’d prefer to move on from this. Would it be okay for me to change in your private bathroom instead of the ones by the break room? It would save me the risk of someone seeing me like this?”
“Of course.”
I picked up my phone and called for Russell to bring the car around.
“I’m going to be heading out. I also want to make sure Julian has left the building. It’s the funeral tomorrow, so I’m unsure if I will be in later. I’ll let you know if I do. Thank you, Charlotte.”
“Thank you, sir. And I’ll be thinking of you and your family tomorrow.”
With that, she grabbed her bag and headed into my bathroom. Picking up my jacket and briefcase, I made my way downstairs.
After being reassured by the security that Julian had been escorted off the premises and all his entry cards and passes had been confiscated, I got into the car and asked Russell to drive. I had no idea where I wanted to go or what to do. All I knew was that I needed to get away. We drove down Broadway when Serena popped into my mind.
“Russell, please take me to Serena’s office.”
“Yes, sir.”
