Page 36 of Beyond Expectations

Rhett could clearly charm all women, no matter their age, and I couldn’t help but smile.

He paid for the room and the sweats, which had the Inn’s logo emblazoned.

Handing him the garments and the room key, Ann directed us to the Royal Suite, situated on the first floor, and informed us of what they’d be serving for dinner, adding that we could choose to eat either in the dining room or to have it sent up to our room. With amusement, I watched as he gave her his thanks and a hefty tip.

It was clear by the look on her face that tips like this weren’t a regular occurrence. We walked down the hall, and as we entered the room, it felt like we’d been transported back to the 1960s.

The room had been decorated as though JFK would have been an expectant guest.

I walked around the suite, taking in my surroundings. On the other hand, Rhett headed over to the side table, which housed a variety of spirits in decanters.

Lifting a glass, he turned. “Do you have a preference?”

“I’m good with anything.”

A drink sounded good as I shivered in my still wet clothes. I should change, but I began to feel shy for some odd reason. I could go to the bathroom, but something about taking off my clothes with Rhett in the next room made me pause.

One minute we were kissing so passionately that I would have had no reservations about fucking him right then and there in the outdoors. The next, we were laughing and running, trying to get out of the rain.

Now, I found myself alone in a bedroom with Rhett, not knowing how long we’d be in there, and I wasn’t sure exactly what to do.

Having poured me a drink, he casually made his way over, his body oozing confidence and sex appeal, and handed me my glass.

The simple touch of his fingertips against mine feels like an electric shock. Our sexual attraction seemed to get stronger and more intense with each encounter we had with one.

I shivered, watching his back muscles flex beneath his soaked shirt as he walked to the bathroom.

“Would you prefer a bath or a shower?”

His voice interrupted my wayward thoughts.

I pause momentarily, thinking how good a hot bath would feel, but decide on a shower instead, as having a bath felt too romantic.

“I’ll have a shower, thanks.”

He came back out, announcing that the water was ready.

“You go first,” I tell him. “I’m going to finish this drink.”

He looked into my eyes, and it felt like he wanted an answer to an unspoken question. But instead, smirked before walking into the bathroom.

“I’ll be quick,” he said with a wink before closing the door.

While he was in the shower, I went around the room and took in all the different ornaments decorating it. There were old black and white photographs of famous guests who had stayed there and an array of various artworks scattered around.

The room housed an array of items, styles, and colors. It would be too much in any other setting, but everything together gave the room more character.

As I heard the bathroom door open, the room’s telephone rang. I reached over to answer it.

“Hello, dear, it’s Ann from reception. I just wanted to inform you that the highway patrol called, and that the main road has been closed off as a tree got struck by lightning and a fallen branch has blocked the road. They said it should be clear and open by the morning, but in this current storm, there is no access back to the main road, and all guests are advised to stay inside until the storm has passed.”

“Thank you for letting us know.”

I put the receiver back.

My mind raced a million miles an hour as the realization of being stranded here, with Rhett, at this Inn, in this room, for the night, really hit home.

The thought made me down the rest of my drink.
