So, I texted again.
Scout
Are you mad and ignoring me or just busy?
I forced myself to put the phone down and get back to work, but only made it another twenty minutes before checking again.
Nothing.
By the time four came, I was pissed.
Jax and Kye came over, their attention on the car I was working on, but Jax’s eyebrows jumped up when he looked at me.
“What’s going on?”
“Nothing.”
“Okay, then, why so angry?”
“I’m not angry. I’m just annoyed. Chase was supposed to come work on the car tonight and I haven’t heard from him all day.”
Kye laughed. “I thought that would be more of a relief than a problem.”
“Usually it would be, but it’s pretty rude to not even let me know that he couldn’t be here. I could have made plans.”
“What plans? Hang out in one of our apartments tonight instead of your own? Pretty sure that won’t take long to arrange,” Jax said with a snorting laugh.
“No. Maybe I wanted to go out.”
The rest of the crew was heading over, already chiming in to what they wanted to do that night. Finally, my phone buzzed with a text. My heart rate jumped as I saw Chase’s name and hit it open.
Chase
Sorry, Hellcat. Bad day. I couldn’t text.
Scout
That must have been one pretty terrible day to not even let me know you weren’t coming over.
Chase
Considering I’ve been in the hospital, yeah it was a bad day and my phone was broken. I had to have a new one brought to me.
My stomach dropped, the sickening wave that washed over me nearly making me puke.
Scout
Where are you?
He sent me the name of the hospital, and tried to tell me not to worry about coming, but I was already heading into the office to grab my keys and bag.
“What’s going on?” Fox asked.
“Going to kick Chase’s ass in person?” Kye joked. “Can I come?”
“Chase is in the hospital. I need to go.”
Their faces fell and eyebrows raised, but no one said a word. Instead, they all grabbed for keys and started slamming the garage bay doors shut, locking up faster than I could blink.
