Page 79 of Love Collided

At some point,I think I fell asleep, but when my eyes cracked open again, Scout was in front of me. Angry with her hands on her hips as she looked me over.

“This is ridiculous, even for you.”

I pushed off the couch, already groaning. “What do you mean? I’m obviously doing agreatjob showing you that I’m not an asshole.”

She gave a harsh laugh. “Yeah, a great job. Come on, I was in bed and I’m exhausted.”

I suddenly couldn’t remember why I thought this was a good idea. Did I think this was going to help my case?

Then again, I wasn’t actually expecting her to even text me back, let alone come get me.

“You came to get me.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

She shrugged as she pulled out onto the main road. “I don’t like worrying about my friends. I would rather know you were safe than worry all night.”

“Are you bringing me home?”

“I’m just bringing you back with me.”

“Awww,” I said, trying to sit up straighter. “You want me to go home with you?”

“Can we not make this out to be a big thing? I just want to make sure you’re okay, but I also like my bed.”

“You might like my bed.”

“I doubt it.”

My drunken thoughts took off. I had been thinking she should be the one that’s sorry because I was mad, but I quickly flipped the table on that. Now she should be mad, and I should be apologizing.

Scout helped me up the steps. I thought I was fine, but the curse word at every other step was making me rethink that.

“Can you please be quiet?” She hissed. “I wasn’t trying to make this a walking advertisement for you coming to my apartment drunk.”

By the time we made it upstairs and she dumped me onto the couch, I could barely think straight, let alone walk straight.

“Goodnight, Chase,” she said, the unfriendly tone matching the slamming door.

I groaned as I rolled over, waiting as I heard her shuffle out into the bathroom and slam her bedroom door again.

“Scout,” I yelled.

“Go to sleep,” she hissed through the shut door.

I didn’t want to be out here, and I tried telling myself it was because I didn’t wantheralone, but I was pretty sure it was me who didn’t want to be alone.

I stumbled through the dark, reaching for my phone and dropping it in the darkroom.

“Shit.”

“Chase, what are you doing?”

By the time I finally reached the bedroom door and pushed inside, I was more than ready to lie down again, the spinning room moving faster and faster.

I fell hard into the bed, bouncing her against me.
