“We want to drink and watch movies without you guys bothering us,” I said, kicking at him again. He grabbed my leg, twisting it until I had to flip over and shuffle away. “And this is exactly why we don’t need you guys here,” I shrieked as he laughed.
The rest of the guys filed in, quickly talking shit about each other before turning around and walking back out.
Quinn sighed and leaned back. “I’ve been dying for a girls’ night.”
“I still vote that we go to a once a week schedule,” I said.
“With how Ransom’s acting, I’m voting yes.”
“Yeah, he’s been acting weird. What’s up with him?” I asked.
“I have no idea, and he won’t tell me. He just walks around muttering and then goes for a drive.”
“I tried to talk to him, but he said it would have to wait and never brought it up again,” I said.
“I don’t know,” Quinn said. “Hopefully a break from me tonight helps because it’s really getting annoying.”
“I can try to talk to him again.”
She only nodded. “What about you? Are you doing okay since Jesse?”
“I’ve been alright,” I said, trying not to give any sign that I might be more than alright.
Ash smiled. “Does that mean you might be ready to date? I’m dying to set you up with someone.”
I wasn’t going to ask at first, but curiosity got the best of me, wondering if she would say Chase.
“Who?”
“I don’t know. We will go out and find some hot, racer guy. Holt is swarming with them. We could set up with a coffee in the lobby and probably have you a date before we were even finished.”
“As much fun as it sounds to sit around looking at all the hot racers, I know most of the people at Holt already and I can’t say any of them are on the top contenders’ list exactly. Considering most of them are already in relationships, or 15 or more years older than me, the pickings get slim fast.”
She waved me off. “We can find someone. I think you should at least go on a date with somebody new. It’s not like Jesse ever wanted to take you out anywhere fun, so why don’t you find a guy who will? Even if he’s not somebody you want to date, you might as well have fun and get yourself an orgasm.”
They all burst out laughing, and I did too. When Quinn came around, girls' night quickly became something I looked forward to. After spending years being the only girl around, it was nice to finally have a group of girls to hang out with. Now Ash and Carly were here and the time I got to spend with them were some of the best nights of my life.
Ash poured more drinks as we talked. Everything from work to relationships to any sliver of gossip that someone heard. I leaned back into the couch, enjoying listening to them all, just as much as I enjoyed chiming in.
A little over an hour later, the door flung open, a line of smiling, laughing men filing in before heading to the kitchen.
My heart dropped when Chase walked in behind Fox, laughing along with them as Ransom said something.
I was expecting to have more time avoiding him in person, but here he was, looking at me with that knowing smirk and hanging out with the guys.
“What are you guys doing back?” Quinn asked.
Kye hopped over the back of the couch next to me, a drink in his hand. “Sheriff has everyone out tonight, so it wasn’t worth it.”
“So you all came to crash our girls’ night? Who said you were invited?” Ash said, joking with them. The guys crashed plenty of girls’ nights, and all it did was give us an excuse to have another one. Fox came around, setting down his drink and spreading out on the floor next to her.
“So you didn’t miss me at all? My poor heart.”
The crew all chimed in, everyone bickering back and forth about how much anyone was missed. Chase sat down next to me, ignoring me completely as he looked at his phone.
Chase
I don’t even have to ask if you missed me.
