He smiled. “I think you’re a liar.”

“No. I actually left them in the car.”

“No, I think that you were thinking about kissing me.”

“That seems absurd. If I was thinking about it, why wouldn’t I do it?”

“I’m not sure. Why wouldn’t you?”

“Because I don’t kiss friends.”

“You’re the one who said we aren’t friends.”

“Maybe I’ll head out to the car and grab my candy,” I said, my chest tightening. I did want to kiss him, and that was infuriating.

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’re freezing and we need to go to sleep.” His hand moved up my thigh, not stopping until it reached my hip. “Plus, you don’t have pants on.”

My breath hitched as his finger hooked under the band of my underwear.

“I’m not ready for bed,” I lied. “I’m not tired.”

“I don’t know if it’s the sweet smile you’ve had on your face all day or the fact that I finally get to spend an entire night with you, but I’m currently not abovemakingyou get into bed. I’m exhausted, and I know you are, too.”

He pushed off the bed, walking around to lie down on his side. I didn’t say a word as I slid under the covers, the chill in the air a harsh contrast to the warmth of him on top of me.

“Did you turn up the heat?”

“Yeah, but I think the dial is more for show than for use. If you get too cold, just come to my side.”

I turned over without a word. There was no chance that I would be going to his side.

Not a damn chance.

Minutes ticked by,but it felt like hours. I was already freezing, and I was worried my chattering teeth were going to wake him up if I didn’t get them to stop.

He had offered to keep me warm, though, and what’s a little exchange of body heat between friends?

My hand moved across the bed until I found hard abs, pleasure rolling through me when I felt how deliciously warm they were.

I forced my hand back to my side, not wanting to wake him, but each part of me craved that heat now. Did his entire body feel like that? Another shiver ran over me. I could be so warm.

I finally grabbed his hand, pulling it to my side, then across my stomach, sighing at the heat.

At first he didn’t move, and I almost believed he was still asleep until his thumb circled once on my hip before his fingers dug in, dragging me across the bed. He flipped over and raised himself up, moving me underneath him.

His chest rumbled with a groan as he nuzzled into my neck.

“Hey, Hellcat,” he said, the deep, husky tone sending a flutter through my stomach.

“I was right about the pillows,” I whispered.

“Yes you were. I should have kept them to protect myself. Now I’ve fallen victim to the Hellcat.”

His lips found my neck again before moving to my mouth, the light kiss sending waves of heat to my core.
