“Your options are go back in there and tell everyone, or leave with me. I guess I could be nice and give you my car, but wemight have even more questions if you take off, and I have to get a ride from someone else. Pick your poison, Hellcat, because you’re not getting out of this one unscathed.”
I groaned, throwing my head back and closing my eyes. “Right now, my choice is that I don’t move from the backseat and maybe all my problems disappear.”
The car rocked, and when I opened my eyes, Chase’s face was inches from mine.
“What are you doing?”
“Joining you, but the backseats are a little small, so hold on.” He shifted around until he was sitting next to me, his knees pressed against my legs. “Alright, way smaller than I thought it would be.”
“Don’t spend much time in backseats?”
“I, surprisingly, prefer beds over tiny backseats. The more expensive the car, the smaller they get, it seems.”
I rolled my eyes. “What a subtle brag, rich boy.”
He flashed a bright smile. “No subtlety about it. This is my loaner, and the backseat is at least usable.”
“As soon as I start to like you, you talk like that and we are right back at square one.”
“If I can make you like me for even a minute, I could do it again, so I’m not too worried. You get five minutes back here and then I’ll be dragging you back into the restaurant.”
I groaned. “What if I don’t want to go?”
“You know I won’t hesitate to throw you over my shoulder, so that’s your choice.”
“Why are you insisting that I go back in? Can’t I just sit here and pout over this?”
“After those races? Not a chance. He’s really not worth another second of your time.”
“And let me guess, you are?”
“Fuckno. I’ve spent enough time with you to not be that delusional.”
I groaned, throwing my head back again. “I can’t believe you’re the one with some semblance of sense.”
“I can’t believe you’re unashamed in agreeing that you’re too good for me, and here I thought we were about to have some heart to heart about self-worth for you. Apparently, I need to have it with myself.”
I smiled. “Sorry, I’ve just dealt with guys like you in my life. I know what type of girls you tend to go for, and they are nothing like me.”
A rumble came from his chest and I could make out his eyes growing heavy. “I don’t know where you got the idea that I don’t like girls like you, but that’s not even a little true. What’s not to like?”
My breath hitched, and I fisted my hand into the hoodie, the warmth spreading over me, and making me want to move closer to him. I could barely believe that Chase was sitting here telling me that he liked anything about me.
“Everything,” I breathed, having trouble finding anything that was worth a damn about myself at this moment.
“I would say that's exactly what I do like about you.”
I don’t know if this is what they consider a rebound or if it’s the strange way that Chase has been there for me, but I leaned closer, moving across the seat until we were an inch apart.
It didn’t matter if I did this. Chase would be around to get his car fixed, and would probably stop hanging around us soon after that. I couldn’t imagine him not wanting to get back to his life and his friends.
And right now, I didn’t see a reason why I shouldn’t kiss him.
I leaned into him, nervous as my lips pressed to his.
Seconds passed with both of us hesitating. Then, he took over, grabbing my hips, and dragging me over his lap until Iwas straddled over him. His lips were soft at first, but grew demanding. Heat pooled as his hands ran down my arms and circled my waist, pulling me against him. I could feel him already growing hard underneath me, and I moved my hips, rocking once against him before his fingers dug into my hips.
“Fuck,” he mumbled against my lips, making me shutter.
