Jesse looked at me, the anger burning in his eyes, and I knew what came next when Jesse got like this. He would take whatever chance he could to start a fight with someone, and myface was already hot at the thought of how embarrassing that would be.
“We kind of need to get back to dinner.Thanksfor stopping over,” I said, nodding my head, my eyes wide, to let him know he should keep going.
“Of course. And I’ll see you tomorrow? First day of fixing my car?” The smirk on his face made it obvious he knew exactly what he was doing.
“Yes,” I said through gritted teeth. “See you then.” I looked away from him completely, knowing if my gaze lingered too much longer, I wouldn’t be looking away again.
Why was this clean cut, dressed up guy having any effect on me?
He finally left, leaving us both speechless with the soft music playing around us.
“What thefuckis he talking about, Scout? Why would he be there while you fix his car?”
“He asked us to fix the car, but also show him a few things while we did. He’s only there to learn.”
“Learn the car or learn about you?”
I ground my teeth together, trying not to snap. “About the car. He has no interest in me. I was the only one who didn’t have a line of cars to work on already this week.”
“So Fox is taking over his car soon?”
“No? I am finishing it.”
“Great. So not only are you hanging around all those guys at the garage, but now you’re adding one rich, entitled fuck who probably thinks he can have whatever girl he wants.”
“Hold on. Did you just say all those guys at the garage? Do you mean my friends? Now you’re pissed about them?”
“I’m pissed about all of this, Scout. You’re telling me you have never wanted to get with any of them, and none of them have ever wanted to get with you? I don’t buy it.”
I shook my head, not quite believing what was happening.
“I can tell you that no, none of us have ever wanted a sexual relationship with each other. That’s disgusting considering I’ve made it clear I consider them my brothers.”
“Yeah? Is Chase your brother now, too?”
“No, but I’m also fixing his car, not trying to jump into bed with him.”
He only shook his head, and before I could respond, my phone went off.

Here’s the address. Be there at 9pm with the money. Then this will be done.
It was the one stupid text I had been waiting for and it had to come at the worst time. It was a little after 8 PM now, which gave me less than an hour to get over to the warehouses where the address was. Luckily, they were only about thirty minutes from here. Not enough time to run home and change, but enough time to get my car, get there and scope it out.
“I need to cut this date short,” I said, not sugar-coating it after his attitude.
“Excuse me?” he asked, eyebrows shooting up.
“I have somewhere to be and need to get back to my car.”
My words were firm. Final. And he seemed to hate that.
“Are you fucking kidding me? I take you out to this nice restaurant, and then that fucking guy shows up and sends you one text and you want to run out of here?”
“He isn’t who texted me. Someone needs me, and I need to go help them. That’s what I do. It has nothing to do with him. And I love you brought me here. I was hoping to have a nice night tonight, but something came up and I’m sorry. I have to take care of this.”
“Take care of what?” he asked.
