“I won’t do either of those things,” I said. “I won’t break up with Chase. If you are really that desperate for his loyalty, then you can earn it. And I won’t be staying down here all night. My friends will be looking for me, and at some point, they are going to find me.”
I knew the crew would do anything to find me, but I wasn’t sure where I was or how they would even begin to know who took me. Chase would probably have the same idea that I did and expect it to be the goons going after my dad, but hunting them down could take hours only to come to a dead end.
As much as Chase had come to hate his dad, I wasn’t sure that it would even cross his mind to think his mom would be involved in any of this. It never crossed mine.
Which meant it could be days, not even hours, before they found me, and I was under the impression that I had minutes left.
I groaned, a headache starting to throb incessantly. I needed to get my hands untied, and I needed to get out of this room. There were plenty of times we had dealt with fighting and dangerous situations, but I was never alone in them. I always had the crew there with me, and it made me stronger. I could do this, though. I wasn’t weak, I wasn’t timid, and if I got to my knife, I could get out of here.
She was still staring me down, her gaze unwavering, but I could see the anger that simmered beneath the surface. She came to some decision, and in three strides, she reached me. Her hand flew back and swung forward. The sting of her open palm on my cheek made me hiss, the burning sensation lingering.
“Are you serious?” I yelled, but she ignored me.
An alarm buzzed on her phone and she clicked it open. Her eyes went wide, and those creepy lips pressed together hard. Shelooked at me, and back at the phone before coming over and shoving the scarf back into my mouth.
“Keep your damn mouth shut, or this is going to get a lot worse for you. I have something to take care of.”
She turned and walked out, shutting the heavy door. The click of a lock echoed in the eerie silence of the dark wine cellar. A shiver ran down my spine, the reality of my situation sinking in. I was alone, and unless a miracle happened, I wasn’t sure if anyone would ever find me.
THIRTY-NINE
CHASE
“Why the hellis the car Scout was driving showing that it’s here at the house?” I asked again. She wasn’t answering, her shoulders back and her face giving nothing away.
“How do you know that it’s here?”
“Because my father put a damn GPS on my car and thought I wouldn’t notice.”
Her eyes went wide, and my heart dropped.
She knew something which meant that Scout very well might be here along with the car.
“She might be here on the property,” I said. “The car is in one of the old barns out back. Let’s start there.”
They all nodded, and headed outside, no one hesitating to start around the back of the house. My mother yelled something, but I ignored it. The car might give us some clue as to where she was, and I didn’t think any questions I had for my mother were about to be answered now.
I pointed out the barn ahead where the car pinged, and was surprised when the girls broke out in a run. We all picked up the pace to catch up to them, but they were faster.
“I think we have a problem,” Jax said.
“Obviously,” Ransom said, rolling his eyes.
“No, I think we…I think we created a girl gang,” Jax said, pointing to where the girls were pulling hard on the doors. None of them looked happy, and as pissed as the guys were, they all looked deadly.
“Their little leader might be inside,” Fox said. “Pretty sure we need them to be a girl gang right this second. We will worry about the consequences of that later, and how they might turn on us one day, but we shouldn’t be surprised.”
Kye laughed as we reached the doors, all of us grabbing on to pull the old wood doors open. “I’m all for it. Sending a group of rabid women after people is amazing. And luckily, they love me since they don’t have to date me, so they aren’t turning on me.”
The wooden latch inside was fighting to break loose.
“There’s two windows on the side,” I said to the girls. “See if you can see inside at all.”
They nodded, all of them disappearing around the corner as we all pulled again.
Finally, the wood broke loose, the doors swinging open, and the Porsche was on the other side. Everyone fanned out, but the whine of an engine caught my attention. From here, I could only see part of the driveway, but I didn’t miss the black SUV that pulled up to the front of the house.
I took off running back towards the house. I knew that SUV.
