“If it hadn’t been for…Blade,” the woman said pensively—yanking me back to the present as tears stung my eyes. “I would have died.”

“That explains why you’re all banged up, and Captain America here, doesn’t have a scratch.” Dalton grinned.

“Very funny,” I drawled dryly. “If the previous owner hadn’t turned that meat locker into a storage room, neither of us would be here. It was the only thing left standing.”

Dalton sobered. “That sounds scary as fuck.”

“I’ll admit, it was a little intense.”

“Little?” the phony Aubrey scoffed. “It was terrifying.”

“It would have been for me, too,” Dalton commiserated. “I’m from Chicago. We don’t get tornados, we get blizzards.”

“Blizzards are definitely better.” Aubrey chuckled, then blanched. “Or so I’ve been told.”

It was all I could do not to laugh. She wasn’t a horrible liar, she totally sucked at it. My gut told me it wouldn’t be long before she said something she couldn’t cover with another lie. When she did, I would unleash every interrogation tactic in my arsenal on her sexy ass, without mercy. I’d drill deep inside her mind, even if it broke her, until I discovered what the fuck she was hiding.

“You all right, Blade?” Dalton asked, studying me intently.

“Yeah, I am now that you’re here.” I forced a smile.

“Good. I vote we get out of here then.”

“Hold up,” I called as Dalton started toward his SUV. “Help me get her inside. She twisted her ankle and got sick when I was carrying her.”

“Oh, shit.” Dalton blanched. “You need to go to the hospital?”

“No,” she barked, pinning me with a scowl. “I can walk.”

“You can, but you’re not going to,” I countered.

“You’re awful bossy, you know that?” she groused.

“Yes, I do.” I smirked as Dalton chuckled.

We each banded an arm around her waist, then lifted the pretty little liar off the ground and helped her into the backseat. While she raised her leg and rested her injured ankle on top of the padded leather, I closed the door.

“You sure she doesn’t need a hospital?” Dalton murmured.

“Probably,” I replied in an equally hushed tone. “But I doubt she’d go. Aside from her ankle, her other wounds are superficial. I doctored them up the best I could, but I need to clean them out properly at the ranch.”

“Is that where you want me to take you two…back to your place?”

“For now, yeah. I’ll drive her home later. We’ve wasted enough of your time.”

“Dude, you’re not wasting my time. In fact, if you’re not in a hurry, I’d like to see what’s left of the club.”

“I’m in no rush, but there’s not much left. Though I would like to find my truck.”

“What about Aubrey’s car? You want to look for that, too, right?”

“Sure.”

Dalton narrowed his eyes. “Is something going on between you two? Did you guys have a near-death sex marathon in the storage room during the storm?”

“No. Hell no,” I bit out.

“Then you’re an idiot. She’s fucking beautiful.”
