“Ahh, yes.I’d forgotten about that.”
“We’d like you to come home with us,” Nick began.“We’d like to continue your training, and also see where this road might lead.If you can’t or don’t want to, we’ll figure a way to schedule visits with you, every other weekend if possible.”
“No.I want more…I want it all.”
“So do we.Is there anything keeping you here…any responsibilities you need to take care of before February?”Nick asked.
“No,” I whispered, tingling with anticipation.
Is this what spontaneity feels like?
“What do you need to do before we leave then, kitten?”Dylan’s blue eyes sparkled with glee. And as his smile widened, his sexy dimple sank even deeper.
“I have to turn in the rental, go to the post office and forward my mail or stop it…or something. Then, I don’t know…pack?”
Everything was moving at the speed of light. While it was exciting and thrilling and more than I’d ever dreamt possible, I was scared.Having aligned my life in rigid routine, such abrupt change was more than a bit daunting.
Still, something niggled in the back of my brain.
Nick said we would see where this new road would lead us.But he’d also made it clear their desire was to continue my training. They’d both professed to love me, but that was far different from beinginlove with me.Was Nick willing to expose his heart, to try to fallinlove again?Or would he forever hold back to ensure it didn’t get broken? And what about Dylan? Was this new arrangement his attempt to heal the scars he carried from war?Was he trying to regain the pieces of himself that were lost? They’d said I’d changed them, but I wasn’t sure what I’d done to influence a shiftthisdramatic.
Was it possible to forge a new path in a little over two months? Then what? What would happen when I had to return to work? The separation would be ten times worse than the few hours I’d experienced since leaving Kit’s.
“Tell us what you’re thinking,” Nick commanded.
I swallowed tightly and peered up at him.“I’m a little overwhelmed, Master. What happens when I have to come back home in February?”
His expression grew solemn.“Nothing’s set in stone, Savannah. We’ll deal with everything, one day at a time.”
I pursed my lips as his words rolled through my brain.
For a man who’d vowed to protect his heart, he’d quickly tossed it into the ring. How had he changed his mind so quickly?Worse, I wasn’t even supposed to know he’d made that vow.
Eavesdropping on their conversation that night in the barn had come back to bite me in the ass…my entire ass.
“We refuse to drag every crumb out of you, kitten,” Dylan admonished.
Inwardly cursing myself for childishly playing possum in the first place, I blew out a heavy sigh.
“There’s something I need to tell the two of you,” I began, darting a guilty glance between them both.“I wasn’t asleep that night in the barn.I heard your whole conversation.”
Their bodies tensed in unison as palpable waves of shock and irritation rolled over me.
“Well, well,” Dylan said, breaking the heavy silence.“You’re just full of surprises, aren’t you?”
“And then some,” Nick drawled in curt agreement.
“I’m sorry, Sirs.I knew it was wrong when I did it.But I wanted to learn more about you both.I-I just didn’t know how to ask.”
Dylan scoffed.“It’s easy, kitten. You open your mouth.”
Though I’d earned their disapproval, I didn’t like it.
“Yes, Master.”
“What questions do you have after listening to our conversation?”Nick frowned.
Willingly planting my ass in the hot seat, I dragged in a deep breath as the flames grew higher and hotter.
