A reckless grin came over Caleb. It was a look I hadn’t seen on him in a long time.
“You should worry about yourself, you fucking geezer,” Caleb spat. “How could you stand back and watch your son assault her?”
“Luke was showing the bitch her place,” Bill snarled, throwing a filthy look my way. “I know exactly who she is. Your father married her piece-of-trash mother, and now, he’s pounding her ass.”
Rage flared inside me at once.
Throwing aside Corey’s arm, I stomped forward.
“Milla, don’t!” Corey’s voice called from behind me but I didn’t stop.
Reaching Luke, I placed both my hands on his chest and shoved him with all my strength. “You were never my friend,” I shouted. “You were always an asshole who wanted to use me as a pawn against them.”
A dark scowl twisted his pretty face.
“Touch me again and I’ll make sure to break your fingers,” I said, glaring between father and son. “I’m no longer the weak, useless girl you knew back in college. There’s nothing holding me back anymore. I’d watch my back if I were you.”
I glanced over at Bill Beckett and slowly walked over to him. “You’ve disrespected my dead mother and the man I see as my father. I’ll return the favor by destroying Beckett Industries one day.”
A cold smile lifted the corners of my mouth. “I’m more than a pretty face. Now that I’m staying in Silverlake City, you’ll get the opportunity to know the real me.”
Bill’s face turned an ugly shade of puce. “No one threatens me, bitch,” he spat.
“I just did.”
Scoffing, he glanced at the two figures standing right behind me. “The Amhurst men are a bunch of pussies. How can you hide behind the skirts of a bitch and let her rule all over you?”
“Generals usually take up their positions behind their queen,” said Corey. “You don’t know this woman the way we do. She’ll own your ass and you’ll never even see it coming.”
Luke sneered, his pale eyes burning with rage. “I still have that video you shared among all your contacts five years ago. How about I show it to your clients and investors?”
A cold laugh escaped me. That move I made all those years ago was to throw off the shame that bound me to the Amhurst brothers. I wouldn’t let anyone use that against me anymore.
“Go ahead,” I said in an icy tone. “Let’s see if my sex life from college makes any difference to my present or future.”
“Fornicating with men you should see as brothers,” Bill scoffed. “You’re not even ashamed.”
I shrugged, refusing to make this despicable man silence me. “Whatever, Mr. Beckett. They’re not my brothers. We didn’t grow up together. The four of us met before our parents got married, so there’s no point in trying to shame us for that. Either way, the deed’s already done.”
I glanced toward Luke and scoffed. “Really...is this all you’ve got up your sleeve to use against me?”
Soft chuckles escaped me but within seconds, a cold, threatening expression came over my face. “You’ve overstayed your welcome. Will you get out on your own or should I call security? Do choose the second option. Our guests will love the drama.”
Bill was so red in the face, I thought he’d burst into flames any moment.
“Come away, boy,” he snarled, grabbing Luke by the sleeve of his jacket and dragging him along. “Useless, pathetic coward! You let that bitch piss all over your father.”
Luke’s expression shifted. A flush crept up his neck as his father cursed and insulted him without bothering to keep his voice down. He was suddenly reduced to a pitiful child who’d disappointed his father.
A heavy breath escaped me as they disappeared from the room.
I looked all around the vast hall, taking note of the people in it. Thankfully, there were only a few valets, moving around to clear the space. No guests witnessed the stupid fight as they’d all been taken to the banquet hall next door.
Moving toward a chair, I sank onto it.
“Are you okay?” Corey asked, coming to kneel before me.
I nodded. “Just tired.” My gaze shifted toward Caleb who stood by his brother. “What about you? Are you okay?”
