My eyes were slow to crack open on Saturday morning, but as soon as Maddy’s inquisitive expression came into view, I jerked back so hard I rolled off the bed, smacking my head on her nightstand before I hit the floor. I was palming at the earth to see if I’d stopped falling when her glass of water followed, splashing half its contents across my chest before she managed to grab it.

“Fuck, Maddy. I’m so sorry.” I couldn’t tell if I was thirsty or dizzy, so I leaned back on my arms and didn’t try to jump up. I swiped at the trail of water running down my chest, relieved to see I had my boxers on. What must she have thought? Goddamn Goldschläger shots. When I looked up, I caught her appreciating my boxers, too, and it was only then that I realized my morning wood had pitched an untimely tent between us. The heat from my hangover rushed to my cheeks.

“How long have you been sleeping with my brother?” she asked, sitting up in a thin tank top that showed off the shape of her breasts.

“What?”

“Are you totally gay or just bi?”

“It’s not like that,” I said. “I just got too drunk.”

She turned an ear towards me. “And crawled into my brother’s bed.”

I tried to swallow, but my mouth was too dry.

“The least you could is answer the question.” She snatched the glass of water off the nightstand when she saw my eyes stray in its direction. “I’ve been waiting all night to ask it.”

“I need that,” I said, reaching for it. “Please.” The sight of my bloodshot eyes must’ve convinced her of my sincerity because she handed it over without another word and watched me drink what was left.

“The fact that I asked if you’re gay and you still have a hard-on is really confusing me, Quinn. I promise not to judge you. I just want to know the truth.”

“I can see your tits through your shirt,” I said, my brain catching up with her words. “How’s that for the truth?”

She looked down to hide her blushing cheeks, and for a moment I thought she was going to pull her sheets up, but she just lifted her face again instead. “So you’re bi?”

I rubbed my eyes, trying to figure out how I could’ve landed in this position. I’d only had a few beers before we got bottle service and then…shit. Had I ordered that Patrón for myself or had I shared it with everybody?

“Please tell me what’s going on,” she pleaded. “Is that why you’re always so put together? Why my brother wasn’t worried about me moving in with you?”

I stood up, wishing my dick would take a hint and lie the fuck down. Unfortunately, it wasn’t clever enough to realize that just because Maddy was half naked in bed didn’t mean it was a good time to stand at the ready. “I’m not gay, okay? I just gave you my room.”

Her brow furrowed as she scooted to the edge of the bed. “What?”

“I got too drunk with some colleagues last night and forgot I gave you this room.”

“I thought you lost it in a bet.”

I ran my fingers through my hair and wished the thick fuzz in my sleepy brain would disperse. “I didn’t lose it in a bet, okay? I just said that to get Tanner off my back.”

“So this is your room?”

“It was, yeah.” My eyes drifted up to Monet’s haystacks on the wall, and the mounds made me think about her breasts again. “But I gave it to you.”

“Why would you do that?” She swung her bare legs out from under the covers and hung them over the side of the bed, revealing little boy shorts that rode all the way up her smooth thighs.

If her attention hadn’t been locked on me, I would’ve bit my knuckles to feel something besides the ache in my balls.

“That doesn’t make any sense.”

I ran my palm over the drops of water that still lingered on my chest and stepped back towards the door. “I thought you’d appreciate having the bigger closet.”

She stood up, and between her bedhead and the way her tight body looked in her sexy pajamas, I didn’t know where to look. Her eyes narrowed as she cocked her head. “The bigger closet?”

“And the nicer view,” I said, my throat constricting when she took another step. “It’s a bigger room.”
