Miller and I help make dinner and eat quickly before getting ready for the night.
“I wish you weren’t staying out all night, but Matthew says it was a wonderful opportunity for you both,” Martha fusses as we pull our jackets on over our uniforms and prepare to leave. Anders is picking us up in his truck, and we said we’d wait down at the end of the driveway.
“I’m looking forward to saving more money for college, but if I can get a scholarship, this will help with living expenses,” I gush, and Miller grunts his agreement.
“What about you, Miller? Have you gotten any offers yet?” she asks lightly, and he shakes his head.
“No, I was planning on looking for an apprenticeship. Maybe something working with cars. I’d like to own my own business one day.”
She claps her hands joyfully. “How wonderful, but maybe some business night classes would be a good idea as well. You need to know all the ins and outs of keeping a business afloat,” she suggests, and he seems to consider the idea.
I keep switching back and forth on my opinion of Martha. Although her background with her former foster parents is suspicious, and her nursing degree made me think she might be involved, she encourages us to make plans for our futures. God, she’s really messing with my head.
“Okay, I’m off too.” James comes in, his car keys in his hands. “I’ll be home late. We have a big game planned,” he tells Martha, brushing a kiss across her cheek.
“Poker is the devil’s game. You know that, dear.” She purses her lips disapprovingly, and he chuckles.
“A man has to have a vice, dear, otherwise other temptations might become appealing,” he counters, and I don’t think I was supposed to see it, but she rolls her eyes.
Huh. Okay, maybe she isn’t as oblivious as I thought. The three of us walk out with a wave, and as we part to go in opposite directions—James to his car, and us to walk down the driveway—he winks. “See you later.”
Miller and I don’t say anything to him, but as we get out of hearing range, I say, “I don’t think he meant that in a general way.”
“No, I don’t either,” he agrees.
It’s not long before his car drives by slowly so he doesn’t kick up too much dust in our faces. Anders’s truck is waiting down at the end of the road for us, and he smiles grimly as we get in.
“Ready?” he asks, looking between us, and we both nod.
“Let’s do this,” Miller replies from the passenger seat, but he reaches for my hand. I lean forward and grab his, and he gives it a squeeze.
We’ve kept up our facade at Serenity House. We didn’t want to risk anyone catching us being overly friendly to one another. There would be questions, and there are already enough of those after my supposed orgy with the three guys at the party and then me skipping school today. Cassie tried to pin me down all evening to grill me, but I made it impossible for her. Sally just glared at me the whole time. Jessica laughed and muttered to me under her breath that Sally has a crush on Miller and not to take it too personally. Dinner was fun. Thankfully, none of them brought up the fact that he and I skipped school. There is mad loyalty amongst the kids in that house.
When I spoke to Dad earlier, I forgot to ask him to find them somewhere safe to go, because I really don’t think Serenity House will survive the coming conclusion, whatever it is, so I pull out my phone and send him a message, asking him to do something. It doesn’t take him long to reply.
Dad: On it!
Anders pulls into the parking lot of the Life Lounge, and before the three of us climb out, he hands us ear comms. These are so little, there is no way anyone will see them unless they get up close and personal with my ear. I slip mine in, and the three of us climb out. The lights on the sign are off, and the doors are shut with a note saying it’s closed for a private party. There are a few cars in the lot, but I’m assuming it’s the rest of the staff who are working.
When we enter via the side door, I’m surprised to see how many people are in the staff room. Matthew, Keith, Sam, Meri, and Carla are there, but so are Ginger, Cindy, and Shelby, whom I met last night, as well as two other girls whose names I don’t know. In addition to them, there are two males and another three females whom I don’t recognize. They are all wearing very little, and I can tell by the slightly manic tension in the room that the drugs are already flowing. The lines of coke on the table are an obvious giveaway as well.
“Good, you’re here. I thought you might have bailed. That would have been very bad,” Matthew says, looking at Miller and me. Anders leaves us and does one of those manly handshakes with Keith while he glances around the room. All of the women are wearing bottoms, exactly like the ones I had on in the cage last night, except they’re gold lamé and nothing else. I watch as Meri and Sam paint gold shimmer dust onto everyone’s bodies, giggling and laughing. The two males are wearing gold boxers as well.
“Put these on,” Matthew demands, throwing us both a pair of underwear. “And then get the girls to paint you up. Oh, and take these. I want you nice and relaxed. You two are going to be our live sex act tonight.” He hands us both some pills with that announcement.
“Live sex act?” I stammer, and a sleazy grin stretches across his lips while Miller glares defiantly.
“Yes. Don’t be coy, Mac. We all know you aren’t afraid of being watched, and don’t look like that, boy. She apparently has grade A pussy. Be happy I didn’t make Nathaniel over there fuck your ass, or then again, you’d like that, wouldn’t you? Maybe we’ll do that after the two of you finish. Now hurry up, we need to get moving.” Both of us glance over at the boy he pointed at. Nathaniel gives us a finger wave and blows a kiss to Miller, who glares, and I elbow him.
Miller and I shove our bags into a locker and strip, pulling on the underwear. Miller looks fucking phenomenal, and I’m hoping we get to take them home. Hell, maybe I need a pair of sparkly hot pants for all my guys. I can just see them all lined up in front of me, their bodies oiled up and glistening, catering to my every need. I bite my lip at the thought, and Miller chuckles under his breath.
“Keep whatever you are thinking in your mind tonight. Focus on that, and not what’s going on around us,” he whispers, his eyes bright with lust as he looks at me.
“Not the first time I’ve fucked in front of people, and I very much doubt it will be the last,” I whisper back, winking before turning to find Meri right behind me, makeup brush in hand. Sam’s next to her, and they get to work covering our bodies with the gold dust.
“It’s edible,” she tells me, and I can tell by her eyes that she’s already partaken in the drugs. “Have fun with it.” She winks, excited for the night. Maybe she doesn’t realize the depraved things that go on down there. My eyes rake over her naked body, and she has no scars, so obviously she hasn’t been cut or hung up.
My eyes flick across all the other people present, and none of them show signs of that kind of abuse. Hmm, that doesn’t bode well for the captives. I really hope they don’t use them for that kind of entertainment, because then I won’t be leaving tonight without killing a few people.
