Nothing happens.
I can’t breathe…
“Edirn,” I whisper, stroking his fur. God, if I just found my mate, only to have him stuck as a wolf indefinitely…
Something crackles. I suck in air as Edirn hunches forward and then begins to straighten. He straightens some more, fur falling away to reveal bare skin.
“Oh, my God!” I choke out.
“It’s working! It’s working!” Sierra and Savannah have their arms around each other. I tilt my head back, my throat tight with tears as I look up into my mate’s beautiful face.
“Hello, lovely,” he says.
I never heard anything sweeter.
Chapter 29
Edirn
“I never thought we’d get away.” Casey laughs, breathless, as we rush into our apartment and slam the door behind us. It had taken hours to fill in the others on what had gone down.
“I guess there was cause for excitement,” I remark. I can’t take my eyes off of her. She’s still dusty and grimy after our hellish day, but she’s a vision. She’ll always be a vision to me.
“I’m just so glad that everything worked out.” She leans back against the door and looks up at me. “The Barr family is lovely. All those kids.” She grins. “I know they said they always have twins, but it was so freaky to see all six of them together. Plus their mom and pops.”
“It’s a good thing they were kept together,” I acknowledge. “It would have been a tragedy if that family had been torn apart forever.”
We both stay silent for a moment. The loss of our own connections is something we’ll carry forever. Although, we have a new one now. Us.
“I’m so sorry I never told you before. About what I can do.” I step closer, stroking her cheek. “I should have—”
She puts a finger to my lips. “I shouldn’t have freaked out the way I did. I just reacted without thinking. I was an idiot.”
It’s my turn to silence her. I do it by brushing my mouth over hers. Her breath comes out as a sigh.
I deepen the kiss, one hand cupping her face as the other slides behind her head, anchoring her to me. She responds with a soft moan, her body melting against mine. The rest of the world fades away until there is only us, only this perfect moment.
“I thought I’d lost you,” Casey murmurs against my mouth, her voice trembling.
“Never,” I whisper back, gazing deep into the sky blue of her eyes. “You’re stuck with me now…my mate.”
A husky laugh escapes her. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
I tilt her chin up, losing myself in her for a moment. “Thank you, Casey. For everything. For saving me…in so many ways.”
Tears glisten on her lashes as she frames my face with her hands. “You saved me too, Edirn. And I didn’t even know that I needed it. I know I need it now.”
Our lips meet again, the kiss deepening. I drink her in, savoring every touch, every sigh, every unspoken feeling.
Our kiss intensifies, passion flaming between us like a wildfire. Casey’s hands tangle in my hair as she presses herself closer, as if she can’t get enough. I can relate – I want to drown in her, lose myself completely in her touch, her scent, all of her.
“God…” she husks out as my fingers skim along her sides, slipping under the hem of her shirt to caress the silky skin beneath. She shivers at my touch, a soft moan fluttering from her lips. That sound nearly undoes me. The need to claim her, to make her mine in every way, surges through my veins.
But I want to savor this, savor her. With great restraint, I break the kiss, my chest heaving. Casey looks up at me, her eyes dark with desire, her lips deliciously swollen. I brush my thumb across her cheekbone tenderly. Then, with infinite care, I reach up to release her hair from its tie, running my fingers to the thick curls as they tumble around her shoulders.
Just for me…
When she reaches for me eagerly, I stay her hand. “I want to do this right,” I murmur. “I want to worship you the way you deserve.”
