“You’re right. And I don’t even want to think about what might have happened.” Gage puts his hand on the small of my back. “I’d rather concentrate on showing you this…” He’s guiding me toward a door off the hallway. When he pushes it open, my breath catches.

“Oh my God, Gage!” I put a hand to my mouth and blink away the tears that have immediately welled up. “It’s gorgeous.” Wide windows allow light to stream past frothy white drapes onto pale lemon walls. There’s a crib in the corner with a comfortable armchair set beside it.

“I know we’ll need another crib.” Gage is so close behind me that I can feel his breath on my ear. “But we have time to fix it up the way you want it, right?”

“Definitely.” My voice is husky. The little nursery is already perfect in my eyes. I stay silent while I try to compose myself. So much is happening so quickly, but I don’t want to stop it.

“Also, I think we need to schedule a check-up with the Doc today to check on the twins. You went through a lot yesterday; that’s not good for the babies. If there’s an issue, I’d rather that we catch it in time.”

“Everything’s going to be fine, my love.” I turn and put my hand on his arm. It’s barely been a day, but he’s already fallen into the role of doting expectant father. After we returned to Steel Lakes, he insisted that I head straight to bed once Sierra had worked through the meltdown we’d expected from her over my leaving. Luckily, she’d agreed with him – they’ve come to a kind of truce.

“If you ever do that to me again, Savvie, I’ll kill you myself, do you hear me?” Her words play over in my mind yet again, and I smile. I love my fiercely protective sister so much. And I won’t do it again. I was such an idiot.

“There’s something else I want to show you.” Gage pulls my thoughts back to him, taking me by the hand and leading me down the hallway.

“There’s more?”

“So much more.” He winks at me as he pushes another door open. “Master bedroom…”

“Oh, wow.” I exhale a happy sigh. I’m already imagining putting my touches on the room. The apartment is partially furnished, so I won’t need to worry about filling up the space, but there’s so much I’ll be able to do with color and decor.

But what really draws my attention is the king-size bed that dominates the room. I slant a look at Gage, who’s watching my face intently, his expression serious.

“There’s something we haven’t done yet.” There’s a rough edge to his voice that feels like it ripples through my flesh.

“There is?” I clear my throat when the words come out hoarsely.

“Yeah.” He turns me to face him, his hand cupping my cheek. “There is.” His lips graze over mine, and I swallow as the sensation tingles through me.

Gage’s words send a thrill through me. I know exactly what he means. We haven’t sealed our mate bond yet. Every wolf dreams of that moment – when you and your true mate become one in both body and spirit.

His lips on mine make my knees weak, and I cling to him for support. The kiss deepens, our tongues tangling as desire blooms. I’ve never wanted anything more in my life than I want this connection with Gage.

When he lifts me up, I hook my legs around his hips as he walks me over to the bed. He sets me down, and I tumble back onto the mattress, breathless, pulling him down with me. We kiss hungrily, hands roaming. My body is on fire everywhere he touches me.

“You don’t know how much I’ve needed this.” He breathes the words against my skin, and I gasp as he trails kisses down my neck. His hands slide up under my shirt, grazing the undersides of my breasts. My back arches off the bed at the sensation.

“Gage…” His name falls from my lips like a plea.

He unbuttons my shirt and slides it down my shoulders. His eyes devour me, dark with passion. Slowly, he strips off my remaining clothes until I’m bare before him.

I reach for him eagerly, wanting – no, needing – to feel his skin on mine. Hands shaking, I fumble with the buttons of his shirt until he puts his hands over mine.

“I’ll do it.” Keeping his eyes on mine, he unbuttons his shirt and shrugs it off, letting it fall to the floor. Still watching me, he unzips his fly and toes off his boots, then drops his pants.

My heart races as I take in the sight of him, his muscular chest rising and falling with each breath. I stretch out my fingers, tracing the lines of his tattoos, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath my touch.

“You’re so beautiful,” I whisper.

“That’s my line.” He groans as I explore him but doesn’t move; just stands there as I learn the lines of his body with my fingertips. The hard planes of his chest. The grooves that define his belly. And then below. I suck in my breath at the sight of his cock. Already, it’s jutting out firmly, hard, and ready. I run my fingers down his shaft, loving the silken texture, before dipping my head forward and brushing my lips against the slick tip of his erection.

“Fuck. I won’t last if you keep that up.” His breath hisses out, and he grabs my hands again, pushing me back before he sinks onto the bed, hovering over me, his weight on one knee as he starts dotting kisses from my chin down to my chest.

“Oh…God!” I gasp as he takes one nipple into his mouth, teasing it with his tongue, before moving to the other.

After licking and kissing his way down my stomach, he presses a kiss into my navel before he ghosts his breath over my mound. My eyes are closed, pinching my lower lip between my teeth as the pleasure builds with every touch. He teases me with his breath, almost touching…almost…but not quite. I’m squirming with need, and when he finally traces a fingertip along the mouth of my pussy, I jolt as if shocked.

“God…Gage…please…” My nails rake his shoulders, desperate for him.
