“How can I say no?”
“You can’t.”

The office was quiet when she walked in the next day. She assumed everyone was busy working since they were down two people. Leo was out of the coma but was still in ICU. The search warrant seemed to prove he was not involved in any illegal activities. Meanwhile, Kyle was still MIA.
Even though her final day was supposed to be tomorrow, she almost felt like she should stay until her probation technically ended on the thirtieth.
The relief on Roger’s face when he saw her only solidified that feeling.
“Is there any way I can get you to handle some of these repair requests?”
“Of course. Let me just finish this report, and I’ll get started.”
“Oh, thank you, Utah! You’re a lifesaver!”

Honeybee: What would you say to delivery in your office for lunch instead of going out?
Liam: I’d ask why.
Honeybee: They are so short-staffed down here, they’re drowning. I wish Roger would have asked me to come in.
Liam: Lunch in my office it is! I’ll take care of ordering it. 12:30 still work?
Honeybee: 12:30 is perfect. See you then.
Liam: Can’t wait.
He was working on his own report for the board when Kathy popped her head in his office, holding up a large paper bag.
“Your lunch is here.”
He rolled away from his desk and stood. “Oh, great.”
“I’ll put it at your table.”
“Thanks, Kath.”
In typical Kathy-style, she didn’t just leave the bag, she unpacked it and set everything out neatly, right down to the paper napkins and plastic silverware.
“Were you planning on giving that poor girl anything to drink other than water?”
“How do you know who I’m having lunch with?”
“Because I didn’t schedule it.”
That was true. No one got an appointment with him without going through her.
Well, almost no one.
Utah, Parker, and board members were the exception.
“Maybe I’m having lunch with Parker.”
