Not in the least.
Her tone was defiant, but she answered his question about where she wanted to eat. “Pizza sounds good.”
“It’s a good thing I’ve been burning off extra calories with you,” he remarked. “I can’t remember when I last had pizza.”
She shrugged. “We can get something else then. You asked what I wanted, I answered. If it’s not what you want, then you shouldn’t have asked.”
“Careful, little bee,” he warned.
“Why do I need to be careful? It doesn’t matter what I do, you’re going to punish me anyway.”
He’d never wanted to kiss her more.
So, he decided that’s what he was going to do. That had become a theme when it came to her.
Veering the car right, he made the next available turn which happened to be into the parking lot of a Thai food restaurant.
A small snort of disgust escaped her. “If you wanted Thai, why didn’t you just say so instead of pretending to care what I wanted?”
Liam unbuckled his seatbelt, then hers, and reached across the console with both hands to pull her face to his.
“I don’t want Thai food.”
He stared into her eyes as he held her cheeks in his palms. She was so fucking beautiful; it made his chest hurt. Taking a deep breath through his nose, he shook his head. “Little sassy bee, what am I going to do about you?”
It was a rhetorical question, so he didn’t wait for a reply before capturing her mouth with his for a punishing kiss.
His tongue wrestled with hers, and she didn’t back down, kissing him back just as hard. A small whimper escaped her as she fisted his shirt and pulled him closer.
She was so damn perfect.
I love you.
The words were on the tip of his tongue when his brain interceded.
Whoa! Hold the fuck on!
I’ve spent a week—total—with her. She hacked into my hospital’s accounts receivable and jeopardized my career. I’m not fucking in love with her! I’m just awestruck by the hot sex.
His heart piped up.
Yeah, the sex is great, but that’s not what this is. I love her.
His brain got the message and knew it was hopeless to try to argue.
Oh fuck.
Liam broke the kiss, leaving them both breathing heavily, and he sat back in his seat, stunned at what he was feeling.
Before pulling the seatbelt back across his chest, he handed her his wallet and gestured to her phone, grumbling, “Order the pizza to be delivered.”
Chapter Thirty-Eight
Utah
What the hell just happened?
One minute he’s kissing her like his life depended on it, the next, he’s releasing her so fast, it was like he’d just found out she had something contagious.
