Page 29 of Possessive Alpha

I lean away, my eyes narrowing. “I don’t believe you. It seems a little too convenient. Especially since Clara…”

My voice trails off as I realize I give Ty far, far too much of my attention. I watch my little sister jog up the porch steps, turn to wave at me, then disappear inside the house.

Leaving me and Ty alone in the forest.

“That little terror. She set me up,” I grumble. “Again.”

“Since we’re out here, and it’s a beautiful night, how about a walk?” Ty grabs my hand and tugs.

I look down. “You’re not wearing shoes.”

How did I not notice that before?

“It’s just a walk in our backyard.” He pulls a little harder to get me moving. “So how was your day?”

I scowl at him as I let him pull me along. Maybe I don’t exactly let him, but that’s beside the point. He’s six-foot-two, and he’s big. There’s no way I’d win this tug of war. “Okay, I guess. An alpha was pushy during breakfast. And he sat too close to me.”

Ty smiles into the distance. “That so? Can’t say I blame him for wanting to sit so close to such a beautiful woman.”

My lip twitches.

He glances my way.

I immediately look away before he can see how close he came to making me smile.

“What else did this alpha do?” Ty asks somberly.

I shrug, feigning casualness as we continue our amble through the darkening forest. “Usual stuff, you know? Being unreasonable. Possessive. Stuff like that.”

“Hmm.” He nods, sounding thoughtful. “Did this alpha kiss you?”

My heart stutters and my footsteps slow as his are slowing, and I think I can guess what’s about to happen.

Now it’s my turn to stare into the distance as a warm flush spreads up my neck. “Maybe.”

He’s facing me now. I feel the heat of his gaze, and his voice is husky when he says, “And did you like his kiss?”

Too much. Way too much.

“Martha?”

I turn, meeting his eye.

He peers down at me. The moonlight is a pool of silver sparkling through the trees and the shrubs. In the house, a million miles away, someone yells. Someone else laughs. Here, it’s just us. It’s peaceful, it’s romantic, and I think this is where I want Ty to kiss me again.

The amusement in his gaze fades.

He’s taking a step toward me at the same time, tugging me close, when he freezes. His eyes flash wolf green, and he thrusts me away. “Back to the house. Now.”

“But—”

I watch him literally rip the clothes off his body, and between one step and the next, he’s a wolf.

I’m not an alpha like he is to shift on the run or even that fast. My shift takes a minute or two. So by the time I’m reaching to strip off my clothes, he’s gone.

And I don’t know why.
