Page 7 of I Think He Knows?

“Exactly.”

Suddenly I remember Ariel’s brilliant idea from this morning.

“Did you get the memo about Ariel’s escape room activity?”

He raises his eyebrows. “Hmm…is it for entertainment, or will we actually need to escape a dangerous and daring situation for our survival?”

I giggle. “Ah, good question. I guess we never know when it comes to Ariel.”

“Think about it though, her idea of an escape room might be swimming with sharks,” he says.

He has a point.

“You’re right. She did try to get a group of us to go skydiving with her.”

“So maybe that’s her plan,” he exclaims. “To lure us there with the promise of fun and excitement.”

I bite my lower lip. “Crap, I already told her I’d go—now I need more information.”

“Yeah, I’d suggest getting that,” he says, “before you fully commit.”

“Well, I hate to tell you this, but I told her you’d definitely be attending,” I say, my tone serious.

“Really? So, you’re speaking on my behalf now?” he asks, folding his arms against his chest.

I try to avoid staring at his forearms. Naturally Coach Cam is in excellent physical condition.

“I figured you’d take one for the team,” I tell him. “You know how Lewis feels about her staff making connections and building positive relationships.”

“And I’m in full support of that,” he replies, his voice lowering.

Somehow, we’ve moved closer to one another—now standing a few inches apart. Admittedly there’s a part of me that wants to throw caution to the wind and wrap my arms around him. I’ve thought about this scenario more times than I can count. Although sharing our first kiss in the middle of a kindergarten classroom isn’t the most romantic of settings. Then again, at this point, I’m not going to be picky.

“Are we still on for dinner?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.

“Definitely.”

His eyes have locked on mine, and my heart is beating rapidly against my ribs.

“Saturday?” I ask. Thoughts of our first kiss are still spinning through my head, so I’m lucky to get out one word at a time.

“Perfect,” he says, not taking his eyes off me. “I’ll text you to make plans.”

The sound of his phone ringing interrupts the moment. Ugh—not again. Whoever keeps calling him has the worst timing ever.

“I’ll let you get back to your organizing,” he says.

“Oh, yes,” I exclaim, trying to hide my disappointment.

I watch as he exits my classroom leaving me on cloud nine. After he’s gone, I collapse onto the closest chair. I lightly pinch myself, and sure enough, I’m awake. I didn’t hold back from flirting, and he certainly didn’t mind playing along. Saturday can’t come soon enough.

Chapter Three

I’m so glad it’s Friday after what felt like the longest week ever. Why do the days drag on when you’re anxiously awaiting something fun? I can barely keep my eyes open as I make my way home. My class was in rare form today, so all I want to do tonight is lay on the couch and binge the housewives of any city.

I’m home for about twenty minutes when I hear my phone buzzing. I practically dive for it because it might be Coach Cam. I frown when I see Jess’s number. Of course I adore Jess, but I was hoping to see a different number on the screen.

“Hello.”
