“Yes,” I say. “Fun, huh?”
“How do you feel about this?” she asks.
I give a shrug. “Fine. Cam was very upfront about it and went out of his way to put my mind at ease, even though he hasn’t officially asked me to be his girlfriend.”
“It’s happening,” she says knowingly. “I can feel it.”
I giggle. My sister claims she has a heightened intuition since pregnancy and giving birth.
“Well, if you feel it, then it must be true,” I declare.
“Exactly.”
“I know we’re making progress,” I say. “And now I understand why Cam has been moving so slowly.”
“Don’t let your guard down,” Kara insists. “There’s more to Lilly than she says.”
I snort. “You don’t know that for sure. You’ve never met her.”
“I don’t need to meet her,” she says confidently. “I just know.”
“Is this the intuition talking or the overprotective sister talking?”
“Both.”
“Text Cam right now and ask him to hang out,” she demands.
“I’m not doing it now. We just went out Friday and Saturday.”
“So?”
“So, it’s only Tuesday.”
As much as I want to spend every second I can with Cam, I don’t want to overdo it.
“That’s plenty of time,” Kara says. “Just send him a friendly message. He will be happy to hear from you.”
“Fine.” I get up to retrieve my phone from my bag.
When I find it, I have a few messages waiting for me. One from Mason asking to talk about Eliza’s birthday. Crap—I still need to call him. What kind of best friend am I?
The other message is from Cam. My pulse picks up as I read.
Hey. Wanted to say hi. Sorry about lunch and Lilly.
“I have a message from Cam,” I exclaim.
“Of course you do,” Kara says knowingly. “I told you he would be happy to hear from you.”
Hmm…maybe there’s something to her intuition claim.
“Text him back,” she demands.
I frown. “Stop being so bossy.”
“Well, then stop being so scared,” she retorts. “Cam likes you. He just needs some nudging.”
I want to protest because I don’t want her to think she can tell me what to do, but I also want to reply to Cam. Such a dilemma. I don’t say anything as I respond to Cam’s message.
