Page 99 of I Think He Knows?

“I knew he was doing it but no details,” I tell them. “He kept it all a mystery.”

“That was the best birthday surprise ever,” Josslyn exclaims.

After I finish eating, I’m able to steal a few minutes with Mason and Eliza.

“You didn’t tell me,” Eliza whines.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t have enough info to share. He wouldn’t give me any of the specifics.”

“I had to keep it hush-hush,” he says, kissing her. “Less chance of you finding out.”

“That was smart,” I admit. “I almost slipped about the party during pizza and sugar night.”

Mason makes a face. “I knew it. That’s why I kept reminding you not to tell her.”

“You guys pulled it off,” Eliza says. “Thank you for the most amazing birthday ever.”

“It was all Mason,” I say. “He organized the party with your mom and planned the proposal on his own. The only thing I did was the invitation.”

“And offered moral support,” he reminds me. “I’ve been so nervous. Poor Sue had to work overtime. She’ll be able to retire to Bora Bora funded solely by me.”

We all laugh. Sue has been Mason’s therapist for years.

“He was worried you wouldn’t say yes,” I tell her.

“What?” Eliza exclaims.

Mason shrugs. “You never know. You might’ve finally figured out you’re too good for me.”

Eliza shakes her head. “Never.”

“I love you both so much,” I wail, my voice shaking. “I’m so happy for you.”

“We love you,” Eliza says.

Mason glances at his phone and then excuses himself, leaving Eliza and me alone.

“Let me see it again,” I squeal as I grab her hand. The flawless round diamond is surrounded by sparkling melee stones. “This is exquisite. I’m so impressed.”

“It’s the most amazing ring,” she breathes, staring at her hand. “I can’t believe this is happening.”

“Enjoy every second of it. You and Mason deserve this.”

She places her hands on my shoulders. “How are you doing?”

“I’m great,” I exclaim.

Her eyes dart behind me, and then she reaches for my hand. “Come with me.”

She drags me toward the door, and when we step into the lobby I freeze. Mason is there, but he’s not alone.

Chapter Twenty-Two

“Cam?”

My heart instantly begins pounding against my ribs. I’m so confused but also thrilled to see him. Why is he here after I basically uninvited him? Did he crash Eliza’s birthday party?

“Hi, Serena,” he says. I notice he’s dressed up in a dark gray suit over a pale blue dress shirt with no tie. He looks so hot…ugh, I can’t think about that right now.
