I decide to let him believe what he wants. It’s easier that way. “I’m just trying to figure out the best approach.”

“No way,” he scoffs. “She showed up at more than a few Havoc parties last year. There is no way she didn’t go home with somebody. Girls don’t come here because they want to sleep alone.”

“So you think she’s been around.”

Vaughn takes a long hit, squinting his eyes against the smoke. “I know she has.”

It never occurred to me until now that Vaughn might have gotten to Olivia first. I barely knew she existed last year, but he has always had a tendency toward slumming it.

For all I know, he isn’t the only one.

The thought makes me inexplicably angry, for reasons I don’t understand.

“I need to get to bed.” I abruptly stand and step over his legs before he has a chance to move them. “Good night.”

Even through my fury, I know I need this reminder. I’m not any more special to Olivia than she is to me. Both of us are playing each other.

Treating this like anything else will only result with the wrong part of me getting screwed.

My head.

“Night.” The cherry tip of his joint glows red as Vaughn deeply inhales. “Don’t let the blue balls get you down. There’s always next time.”

I punch the wall as I reach the top of the stairs.

Vaughn’s laughter trails after me until I slam the door of my bedroom.

Fuck.
