In agony.
By the Gods, help us! Dean exclaimed.
Raven, get out of here, Hudson choked out.
Levi’s voice sounded weak. Please, get back to the pack. Make it worth something.
But I dug my talons into the dirt and hunched forward. I’m not leaving without a fight.
I propelled myself forward, leaping into the air and crashing that damned black bear off my Hudson. I rolled onto the ground, digging my talons into his fur and dragging it along with me. The roar the bear let loose was accompanied by a swinging paw in the air, but I managed to unhinge my jaw and capture that fucking arm in between my teeth.
I raked my razor-sharp fangs all the way down that motherfucker’s arm.
And I watched as it fell to the ground bleeding.
All right, I said before I spat some of the bear’s black fur to the ground, who’s next?
The bear on top of Levi left him alone and charged me. I leveled my body with the ground, damn near sinking my stomach to the cold, hard dirt. The bear leapt toward me, its claws protruding and slashing through the air. I flipped quickly onto my stomach and stuck my talons into the air and watched them dig into the stomach of that bear.
Before its intestines spilled to the forest floor as it rolled down the hill with nothing stopping it.
Who wants some more!? I exclaimed as I jumped up to my feet.
One by one, the bears charged me. With their teeth dripping with saliva and their claws shimmering in the sunlight, I dodged their swipes and their jowl snaps while trying to conserve my energy. I was tired from a lack of good sleep and an even greater lack of clean food and water. But I wasn’t going down without a fight.
If this was where we all ended, I was going down with my men.
Raven, Hudson choked out.
I’m—I’m not healing, Dean whispered.
Levi sounded like he was gurgling on something. Get out, Raven. Get out, before it’s too late.
I backed up toward my men as bears surrounded us on all sides. There were too many of them, and as sweat dripped down my forehead even Wolfy stayed silent. It had all been too much, and with my men not healing I had no way of getting them out safely. The bears continued stacking up, row after row, wrapping around us in a circle and creating what seemed like an impenetrable barrier.
I had no way of getting us back home, much less saving Brody.
And I had no idea what in the fuck to do with that revelation.
Can you guys get up?
All they answered me with was grunts and groans, though. They needed healers. They needed their wounds cleansed of whatever poison was working its way into their system.
But how?
How in the fuck did I get them back home?
Use your powers.
I gasped as Dad’s voice echoed off the corners of my mind.
Use your powers, Lovebug.
My gaze darted around. Dad, is that you? Where are you?
My eyes rolled into the back of my head, as if they had a mind of their own. And the second my world was cloaked in darkness, he materialized. Seemingly out of nowhere.
With that kind smile on his face and those understanding eyes that had brought me so much comfort as a wild little girl.
