A stupid and sudden sadness washed over her, and she cast a look over her shoulder. Sasha and Kru were disappearing out the back exit and Lucas was standing next to Gunner, watching them.
“I’ll get over it. I always do.” She moved to release her, but then changed her mind and hugged Jenna instead.
Jenna’s entire body was tense, but she slowly softened and wrapped her thin arms around Cadence’s shoulders. “That’s for always having my back,” Cadence whispered.
Jenna gripped her shirt and hugged her even tighter. “Always.”
Cadence released her and glanced over at her Alpha. Lucas mouthed, You okay?
Cadence nodded and jerked her head toward the front door. She had zero interest in watching Kru and Sasha making out or whatever it was they were doing out that back exit.
Gunner was holding Cadence and Jenna’s purses, and Lucas led the way toward the front door.
As they passed the bar, Brock, who she’d met earlier, was grinning. “See? This is why shifters scare the shit out of me.” He pointed to Jenna. “She’s a buck-ten soaking wet and she blasted that woman to the floor and wanted to take on everyone. I’m out.”
Cadence snorted. Truth be told, she understood. Brock was fine not wanting to mess with shifters. At least he knew his boundaries. “You have a good night, Brock.”
“Don’t kill anyone out there, ladies,” he called after them, and Jenna huffed a single laugh.
“I can’t take you anywhere,” she teased quietly as they walked out the door Lucas held open.
Outside, Lucia was waiting. “I’m going with them,” she announced.
“What do you mean?” Lucas asked tiredly.
“I’m going with the girls. I’ll make sure nothing happens.”
“Oh no, I’m taking all of you home,” Lucas growled.
“We need this,” Jenna announced.
Lucas’s eyebrows shot up. “You tried to fight a saber-toothed tiger.”
“Correction, she rocked a saber-toothed tiger,” Cadence said.
“That doesn’t make me feel any better about you going out alone.”
“Let them do their thing,” Gunner rumbled, his bi-colored eyes watching something in the woods outside of the bar.
“I promise I won’t fight anyone else,” Jenna said.
“She won’t,” Lucia assured him. “I had a vision of a very boring night ahead of us.”
“Your tone is full of lies,” Lucas pointed out. “You didn’t have a vision at all.”
Gunner said it again, but louder. “Let them do their thing! Cages are awful. None of them should be caged. If they want to go fuck up the town, let them. You want to be a good Alpha? Give us space to make mistakes. They’re females. They want to dress up and put glitter on their eyes and dance on a bar-top. Fuckin’ let them.”
Oddly, she wanted to thank Gunner for having their backs.
“I need a ride home,” he said. “Soon. I think I need to Change.”
“Where’s your truck?” Lucas demanded. “I know you didn’t walk here.”
“It’s over there!” Gunner roared. “Fuck, Lucas. I’m asking you to take me home before I murder a bunch of people. Take me the fuck home. Let the girls be, just…” He squatted down and linked his hands behind his head. “I don’t feel okay.”
“Ffffuck.” Lucas tossed Jenna the keys to his truck. “Call me if you drink too much. Please! I’ll drop him off and head back this way.”
“I’m not drinking tonight,” Jenna assured him. “I’m the designated driver. Just get Gunner home safe. I’ll send you titty pics.”
