“Look, she’s a virtual nobody. No one even reported her missing. We can figure out what to do with her later, but she’s in our care now, especially since the client wanted her out of the picture. Jameson interrogated her, and I confirmed she was living in a social services home for omegas. She’s not a spy.” I saw Kian’s jaw muscle twitch as he looked at the monitor again. “And besides, we can keep an eye on her better there. Think about it.”
I felt his alpha energy fill up the room. “Absolutely not.” He walked off, but I felt deep through his bonds that he was struggling with desire for this omega. I tried to stifle a smile. It was going to be interesting watching this play out.
Chapter 25
Jameson
There was no better feeling than feeding the little omega. I’d never felt such a sense of blissful peace as when I was with her. I knew she’d been through something. I could sense it. But she was a fighter, even with her naivety and innocence. And right now, as she looked up at me with those big, sweet eyes, I knew I needed to get her better accommodations, not to mention some different clothes. She was sandwiched between Maddox and me, and in our haze of bliss we’d fallen into some type of high from our combined pheromones and her perfume. I could tell she was finally calm and trusted us, at least for now. And I wanted to find out all there was to know about this woman.
“Tell me, kitten, what do you like to do for fun?” She thought for a moment before answering.
“Well, I take a lot of courses at the omega house. And sometimes I volunteer at the front desk. Oh, and I hang out with my friend Piper.” I smiled at her responses.
“What do you like to do when you hang out with your friend?” She took another cherry from me and chewed before responding.
“Well, she has a pack, and they got her a car. So sometimes she picks me up and we go for coffee. Or movies.” I nodded and thought about what kind of car Bella would look best in. Probably something big and luxurious to keep her safe.
“And what else do you like?” I wanted to know what her favorite was of everything, so I could procure anything she wanted.
“Well, I don’t know. I can’t really spend a lot of time outside the omega house, except when I’m being courted.” I paused. Being courted?
“Were you being courted by a pack before the Ball?” She shook her head.
“Here and there, but I wasn’t having much luck. The Ball was the best thing to happen to me, or at least it sounded like it at the time. No packs wanted me there either.” Her face flashed with a momentary hurt that hit me deep in my soul, but then she straightened up and put a smile on. “But I won’t give up.” How could any of this be possible? Who wouldn't have scooped her up at the first chance?
“What do you mean, not having much luck?” I asked gently, not wanting to press too much if it was a sore topic. She tried to act like the question wasn’t bothering her.
“Well, I can’t seem to find a pack long term. None of them continued courting me.” I shook my head. That couldn’t be right. “And at the ball, well, I think that’s more for well-to-do omegas. No one wanted an omega who was only there as a pity case.” I reached for her then, pulling her to face me.
“Hey! You aren’t a pity case, do you hear me? Omegas are rare and beautiful. Especially the one I’m looking at.” She blushed and looked down. “Can you tell me kitten, what kind of pack are you looking for?” She swallowed and fiddled with the crystals on the dress. We hadn’t brought any extra clothes for a woman, since the plan was to drop off our target after a couple of days. I made a note to get Bella some nice, comfortable clothes to change into.
“Any pack, really. I mean, I used to want one that was the perfect fit, like you read about in love stories. Like true love, having a pack that adores me, would cherish me and take care of me. You know, the kind of sappy things they tell you when you are a kid. But I learned that not everyone gets that. Most packs want an omega that benefits them monetarily or helps their status, especially the ones at the Darlington Ball.” She sighed before continuing. “I’m from Haven, but only because that’s where the nearest omega social service housing was located. My family is poor and they couldn’t afford to send me to the private institutions.” Her eyes looked up at me with a sadness that nearly broke me. “So I’m going through the register, but the longer I’m on it, the harder it is to find a pack.” She paused for a moment, then straightened her back. “But I’m not going to give up. I’ll find a pack, and I know there’s a decent one out there who will accept me.”
I reached for her, cupping her cheek. She didn’t flinch, which surprised me. Most people shook with fear when I touched them. “Listen to me. There’s nothing wrong with you. You are a treasure, and you need to start acting like it. You don’t need them to accept you - you need to demand that they earn your acceptance.” Her eyes widened as I spoke to her. It was the truth - something had broken this little one to the point where she was doubting her own value, and despite her will to act like it was okay, she was letting herself believe she wasn’t worth a pack. Any pack that overlooked her had to be blind. I knew I needed to talk to the guys soon and let them know my thoughts. I saw how they reacted to her scent. I could feel it through our bonds. Maddox was turning into putty just being around her, and I knew the others would see what I was seeing if they spent any time with her at all. She was special, and I wanted to make sure she never felt alone or unwanted again.
“I’m going to get some things to make you comfortable. Any requests?” I got up, ideas already forming.
“Something to drink, and more blankets maybe.” She frowned. “And do you have any omega suppressants here? I need some. I shouldn't go more than a few days without them.” Shit. We hadn’t thought of that part. Our intel on Celeste was that she wasn’t due for a heat in months, so stocking up on suppressants hadn’t been a concern. Now it made sense why her perfume was coming through so strongly.
“Of course. Wait here. I’ll get you anything you need.” I left her in Maddox’s arms, letting him take over the conversation as I went to go get the flatscreen tv and some blankets for her. Cy saw me as I passed by.
“We need to talk about the omega.” His words barely registered as I grinned and slapped him on the shoulder while I moved by.
“She’s great, isn’t she? Hey, do me a favor and help me get a tv set up in her room. She needs something to keep her entertained.” I’d rather do all the entertaining, but I also realized I needed to move slowly. She was in a new place, still wary, and I wanted her to choose me and our pack to be hers forever. Because I knew at this moment that she belonged with us.
“A tv? Jameson, I know what you’re thinking, but we can’t keep her! Not without the full pack’s approval.” He followed me as I went to the living room. I had an idea. The rest of the pack just needed to be around her, talk to her, and they would see how incredible she was. I turned to Cy.
“Hey, do me a favor? I need to run to town to get some clothes for her. Can you move the tv into her room? Also, she probably needs to use the restroom and shower.” He raised an eyebrow at me while I grabbed my keys and headed out the door. “Thanks Cy! I owe you.” I left before he could say no. and I knew deep down he was curious about her. By the time I was back, he’d be a goner.
Chapter 26
Bella
The beta fed me until I was satisfied, then left to clear out the plates. He promised to be back soon, so I sat on the bed and rested. They didn’t say anything about me leaving the room, but I also didn’t feel like I was in danger. Actually, I felt more at peace than I had in a long time, mostly because I felt innately cared for in this strange place. They had been nothing but kind to me, even when I figured out they were the ones who took me. Deep down I wondered why I was feeling so at home with these men who were obviously criminals. I’d never felt such a quick connection with anyone else, even packs who had courted me. And their scents! Every time one of them came into the room, it was nearly impossible to concentrate. I’d never smelled a pack so delicious in all my years of being an omega. I tried to keep myself calm about it. After all, I’d only met 2 of them so far.
There was a knock at the door and I turned to see it open after a moment. My eyes widened as I took in the tall figure who smiled at me. “Is it alright if I come in? I don’t bite, I promise. Unless you want me to.” I blushed as my eyes roved over the alpha standing in the doorway. He was tall and had a devil may care attitude about him. He was all lean muscle, his long arms crossed as he rested against the doorframe. His shirt sleeves were rolled up halfway, revealing a mesmerizing pattern of tattoos that covered the tops of his fingers and went all the way up under his sleeves. I could see that they ended right around the base of his muscular neck. It contrasted with the glasses he wore, making him look like a mystery, and one I wanted to figure out. He had an undercut, light hair, and a dazzling smile. His face was intelligent, with a straight nose and sharp sea glass colored eyes.
After a few moments of staring at him, the scent of freshly cut grass, ocean mist and pine hit me with such a force that my eyes nearly rolled back. He smelled incredible. I shook my head slightly, almost forgetting what he had asked. “Um, yes, you can come in. Am I in trouble?” I asked as he smiled even wider and took a few steps toward me before stopping.
