“Yes, for the family, et cetera, but we have to actually marry today, in an hour, so hurry, please.”
The warm water from the shower felt too good. I wanted to stand under it longer, but there would be other days for that. The wetsuits we wore sitting with Scrapper in the water all night kept our bodies dry but I’d still venture to say they weren’t meant to be in for eight hours.
I should make sure a hot tub gets added in the renovation. All these people that work here could use it, I’d bet, at the end of the workday, or during for that matter.
By the time I left for my yacht, everyone knew what was about to happen. Charlie was given instructions to watch for the judge and slip him in as quickly as possible. I hurried to get everything for the meeting then back again. Somehow, something got out and there was a crowd. Thankfully, the judge arrived at the same time as I did. I pointed for him to park at the door then blocked his exit from the car with my car. Having Charlie and Bobby coming toward people helped.
“Nice job. I like how you made a little wedding area.” I nodded when I saw what had been made right by the pool. “Judge, thank you for coming. Did you meet the dolphins yet?”
“I was still meeting your fiancée. I hope I won’t be swimming with them today.” He looked to them a little nervously. “I’ve never been one for the big mammals.”
“Look how little he is.” I pointed to Scrapper. “He almost died on us yesterday.”
“I’m sorry to hear that. Kellan was telling me a little about it. You have a fight on your hands today. Call me if you need back-up. No one in ranking should be abusing their standing.”
“Thank you. Has Delores arrived?”
“No, I did.” Sydney stepped from behind Doc. “When she called me for help with your request, I had to come meet the girl that could get you to wear this.” She held out sweats and bling sneakers. “I like her already. We’re gonna have fun shopping.”
“Now, now, this was because she is such a good sport with all the hoopla for the wedding. We won’t be changing my wardrobe, girls.”
“We can laugh about this later. Run and get changed.” Sydney handed us the piles. “I have to get back to work. Kleine, I hope to see you before the wedding Saturday.”
I stood in front of the mirror with my body shaking, I was laughing so hard. The outfit was ridiculous and I kinda felt like a Backstreet Boy. When I finally gathered myself and stepped into the little hallway, Kleine had to cover her mouth to stop her laughter, too.
“I am not the right size guy for an outfit like this.”
“Football players wear clothes like that. Some even have blinged shoes.”
“Not sneakers, and if I was a tough football player, I’d dare anyone to call me out on it, but me being me…”
“What about you, Triton?” She handed me a broom someone had made into a trident.
“This day keeps getting more and more weird.” I turned her to walk ahead of me. “Let’s get this thing done and take down the city.”
She stopped walking then turned with her hand on my arm. “You don’t have to do this. I won’t be mad if you’ve changed your mind.”
“Woman, do you see what I’m wearing?” I spun around. “If I was going to change my mind it would have been long before this disaster.”
She gave me one of those smiles I’d been lucky enough to have turned on me a week ago and it sent a shiver through me.
“Is Aunt Victoria coming for this?” I asked before we started. “She’d have my hide if I didn’t wait for her.”
“She is caught in a meeting, she messaged me while I was getting dressed,” Kleine answered.
“She’s messaging you now, instead of her beloved nephew. Is this how it goes?”
“No, she said you didn’t answer your cell.”
“It didn’t ring.” I felt my pocket. “I don’t know where it is right now.”
“Boys and girls, we have a very important schedule to keep, I believe.” The judge cleared his throat. “Now, I’m not going to do all the big words, you will do that on Saturday. This will be a simple, cut and dry, two-minute thing.”
“We’re ready.” I grabbed her hand in mine.
Before I could put a complete thought together in my head, I was saying “I do” and she was sliding a ring on my finger.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife.” He looked to each of us. “Are we doing the kiss the bride thing?”
