“Hold on. Let me put my wetsuit back on and I’ll come in with you.”
I was glad to be out of the water but, at the same time, little Scrapper was so sweet, all I could think about was going back to him. I downed the rest of my food and crawled my way back over to the action. The sling wasn’t near as big as we needed it to be to hold both of us, Scrapper, and his mother. Dalton lifted his arm, allowing me to get closer.
“This is cozy.” He smiled down at me.
Oh, Triton, you are way too close right now. I can’t let myself like you, you don’t actually want me.
“You alright?” he asked, inches from my face.
Chapter Twenty
DALTON
Why is she looking at me like that? Did I say something to upset her?
Cassy backed away eventually and Scrapper had been scooped up into Kleine’s arms. If I was being honest, I’d have to admit I was a little jealous, but there was no way I was admitting it after I told her and everyone else this was a marriage of convenience.
“Boss, hey, boss,” Bobby called me.
“What’s up, man?” I looked down to see Kleine asleep in my arms and Scrapper on my stomach. “I guess I fell asleep.”
“Kellan has been calling. I thought I’d better wake you.” He handed my cell to me.
“Did you speak to him?”
“Briefly. He’s on the plane headed back here. I have to pick him up in two hours.”
I asked Siri to call him. “Hey, man, what’s up?”
“I have a meeting set for three o’clock with Edward. He thinks he can win but we need the ace in the hole.”
“Meaning we need a marriage certificate to hand him.”
“Yes, and she needs to be added to your trust. Edward needs to see you are completely connected. We can change it right after.”
“That’s fine. She could stay; I would want her taken care of.” I shifted on the sling. “I assume you and Aunt Victoria already have a plan in motion.”
“Her judge friend will be at the seaqurium at noon. He’ll have the certificate, then we register it immediately after.”
“There’s a lot going on here. I appreciate you making it happen.”
“I’ve been filled in. I’m sorry my attack on them may have caused this, but we’re about to end it. They’re going to be made to regret what they’ve done.”
“You’re terrifying, big brother.”
“Bond is terrifying. He has loads of dirt already and I’m not asking where he got it. They’ll all be sorry.”
“Amen. See you soon.”
“Hey, Kleine, what am I supposed to do with the wiggle worm?” I rubbed her arm to not startle her.
“Hey. Oh, boy, did we fall asleep?” She rubbed her eyes. “Scrapper, you stinker. He wants loose.”
“I agree.” Doc began lowering the sling. “Kleine, be ready to help him.”
“Look at him go, with their help.” She cried. “I didn’t think he was going to make it and he did. It’s a miracle.”
“You did it. He needed someone to believe in him and cuddle him. I’m proud of you for proving me wrong.”
