“You should come out on my yacht. Aunt Victoria agreed to join one afternoon.”
“Yes, Dr. Garcia, you should join us,” she agreed.
“I would be pleased to. For now, though, I have to get this.” He reached into his pocket for his cell. “My apologies, but I have a patient needing my attention.”
“I’ll walk you out.” Aunt Victoria took his elbow as they walked off.
Darn, I forgot to ask him if he could tell me where the rescue he knew of was taken.
Chapter Five
KLEINE
“Josh, when did you get back?” I jumped up, looking to Netty.
“She’s fine. I’ve been checking her. Truthfully, I’m shocked she didn’t wake up from your snoring.”
“I do not snore; you’re such a liar.” I threw my pillow at him. “What time is it?”
“Like midnight. I had to eat all of the ice cream by myself.”
“You better not have, I’m starving.” I grabbed at the bag he had on the floor. “Did you bring food?”
“I did and it’s cold now. I told you, it’s midnight.”
“Josh!”
“What’s the arguing in here?”
“Dr. Garcia, how was the party?” I asked, covering a yawn.
“It was fun; I even danced.”
“You ‘even danced’? Seriously, we all know you probably danced every minute of the night.”
“Yeah, alright, fine, you got me, I danced all night.” He loosened his tie. “I would have rather not been in this suit.”
“You look quite handsome.” Another yawn caught me. “Why aren’t you at the party still?”
“I had an emergency call, didn’t feel like going back after.”
“I get that. Did your patient survive?’
“Oh, yes, a difficult delivery was all it was.”
“Glad to hear it. Bringing new life into the world was my favorite part of residency.”
“How’s our girl?” He pulled his tie off. “Has she moved at all?”
“Not while I was awake. Josh, what did you see all night?”
“All night? It’s only ten o’clock.” Doc checked his watch.
“I knew you were lying Josh,” I demanded. “Doc, you wanna examine her?”
“Yeah, I can do it from the side, though.”
“She’s been in her second cycle for about two hours.” Josh followed him to the sling.
