Curiosity got me. “How long are you set here?”
“’Til the job’s done. The sooner the better,” he replied, giving me a handshake, then stepping back. “Take care.”
Turning, I opened the door and heard it close behind me. Only then did I turn to make sure that asshole was gone. Thank fuck he was.
My heart thumped. I needed to get this shit done and get to my girl. Listen to me.My girl. No, Raid’s girl.
Suddenly, my body was pressed against the wall, my face crushing into the concrete and a heavy weight at my back. It was fast, and the hold on my arm was expert, not allowing me to move much at all.
Breath hit my ear. “You motherfucker. Meetin’ up with the enemy, huh? Gonna lead him right to Nyx?”
“Let me fuckin’ go, Raid,” I growled low and started moving to get out of his hold. He grabbed my wrist and began to press it back. He could snap the fucking thing, and I wouldn’t give a flying fuck. I’d take the pain. Anything was better than the ache in my heart.
“Explain yourself, or I’m takin’ you to the clubhouse and dealing with your ass,” he warned.
He could see me roll my eyes. Of course that was the first threat. Always to take me to the club so he and his brothers could teach me a lesson. Didn’t he know I had nothing to live for? Well, now I did… I didn’t want to stay, but I had to save Nyx. Raid could kiss my ass. And when that was done, I’d be gone.
“Shut the fuck up. Need to talk to you, but not here.” Looking over to the door on the left, the secretary inside the place was looking through the window at us. We were only in the walkway and this shit wouldn’t look good. “The woman in there is lookin’. Could we not call Thompson here again?”
“Motherfucker. I knew you had something to do with this.”
He swung me around and put his arm at my throat. I didn’t resist. “I didn’t have shit to do with it, but I do know something now. I need to go in there and sign some fuckin papers, and then I’ll come back to the safe house. I’m in it for the long haul.” The long haul had so many interpretations, and there was too much to do to even think of that time frame.
“How do I know you’re not gonna lead those fuckers to her?” he growled low.
“Because I’d fucking die for her. So cut the shit. We don’t have much time. Those fuckers are closer than we thought. As much as it kills me, right now the best thing for Nyx is you to take your ass back to her. Let me finish what I gotta do here, then I’ll fill you both in there.”
He took a step back. “You’re fuckin’ kiddin’ me.”
“No. I’m not. Let me finalize this shit and get my aunt out of my hair, so I can help you take those fuckers down and get Nyx free. Meet me back there?”
“Fuck no. I’m not leavin’ your ass. You knew Nyx couldn’t leave and yet you did wanting her to come and find you. Then come to find out you’re meeting with the enemy. So no, I’m not fucking leaving you. My eyes will be firmly on you from now on.”
“Awe. You say the sweetest things.” I rolled my eyes. “Let me go, motherfucker. Gotta get this shit done.” Arguing any more with him would only leave Nyx vulnerable longer. Did I want to go back there? No, but when I said I’d die for her, that shit I meant. Dealing with her love for Raid, well, that might just kill me.
He pushed off of me. I made no move to grab my throat or shake out my limbs. That would give him the impression that he affected me. Fuck that. Instead, I turned to the door, opened it, and walked through. It didn’t shut directly behind me.
No, that was because Raid was on my heels, and it wasn’t until he cleared it did it close.
Ignoring him, I smiled at the secretary and said, “Hello. I’m Liam McMatthews. I have some documents to sign.”
She hesitated only slightly then looked around me and smiled wide. “Raid. Good to see ya,” she said with a wink. Fuck me. One of his fuck toys. Great.
I didn’t turn. Didn’t want to give him anything.
“Hey. Can you get Dave for us?”
“Absolutely. Can I get you anything while you wait?” she asked him and not me.
So I responded. “No. Can you get your boss?”
Her eyes came to me, and her smile left her face. “Sure.” She spun out of her chair and went through a door.
“Still good with the ladies, Liam,” Raid said, coming to stand next to me and crossing his arms over his chest.
“Still fuckin’ everyone who’ll let you put your cock in them I see. Funny how things never change.”
“Don’t fuckin’ start with me,” he growled.
