Yeah. This was fucking fun.
Yeah. Fun.
Fuck me. Huge mistake. Why I put myself in that position, I’d never know. Stupid moment.
Liam continued. “I thought the estate was closed, but come to find out, my aunt hid a bunch of shit from me. He was a motherfucker, but he had a lot of investments that I didn’t know about and that I’m in charge of. I was contacted by a bank who let the cat out of the bag because she sure as shit wasn’t going to tell me, and now I have to deal with that bitch to get everything sorted.”
“Let me guess,” I cut in. “That bitch wants the money.”
“You got it. She thinks I’m comin’ home to blindly sign papers and give everything over to her. She’s banking on me being stupid and naive. She thinks I’m still a fuckin’ kid she can push around and manipulate. She’d be wrong. By the time I finish, she’ll have nothing.”
Then something clicked in my head. “Nyx’s house. That’s your dad’s rental, isn’t it?”
While Liam never lived there, I remembered he used the rental as a hideaway. His childhood was nothing like mine. He’d shared. He’d also swore me to not touch his father even though I wanted to send him to hell. Good thing he was already there.
Liam’s lip tipped up at my words, his eyes coming to mine and hitting me right in the damn heart. “Yeah.”
I’d known about the house, but I’d thought after he died it had been sold to Nyx. There was no reason for me to think any different at the time. Probably should’ve looked up the deed, but I didn’t think it was an issue. If I was truly honest, anything tied to Liam I avoided. Letting him go was necessary for us both. Shit still stung, though.
“You’re kidding me!” Nyx said, closing the cabinet, her hands going on her hips. “I had a contract for the deed agreement with Clara. Cash only. You’re telling me it was all shit because it was your father’s house and not hers?”
“She has no rights to sell the place, but she’s thinking I’ll sign it over to her, so she’ll have the right. But in the meantime, she’s just taking your money, and once she squeezes you dry, she’ll go back on her word. She’ll never give you that house.”
“I seriously want to cut a bitch,” Nyx growled out.
“Tell me about it,” Liam said low. “But I’ll need to leave here and go handle that at some point. She’ll be pissed and want to drag me into whatever mindfuck she thinks she can do to me. I’m not playing her game. She tried to get one over on me and take everything my dad had. Fuck that. She’ll get nothing by the time I’m done with her.”
“I’ll go with ya,” I said before thinking even for a second, remembering how vindictive that bitch was. No, I didn’t want him going alone. He shouldn’t have to deal with that woman after what she’d done to him. I’d suggested a long time ago taking her out, but he didn’t want to. Bet now he’d wanted to change his mind on that decision. Several of his problems would be ash by now.
Liam turned to me and crossed his arms over his chest. “I do not need a fucking chaperone to handle my shit.”
“You don’t, but I’ll have your back anyway.” I’d committed to it.
“Right. Because that worked out so well before. It’s all good. I’ll handle it,” he chided back.
“You don’t need to handle it on your own Liam. We’re here for you,” Nyx said, smiling up at him, concern washing over her.
“It’s not something you have to worry about. She’s a bitch, and I’ll take care of her.” Liam kept trying to push us away.
This pissed me off. Fuck him telling me what was going to happen. “We’ll see. What else do we need to know?”
Nyx’s face went stern. “Don’t dismiss it. We help each other or I’m out.”
“Calm down. Okay. Will need to get out of here, go to the lawyers, and sign some documents, but we can put a plan together. That I’ll give ya,” he said, turning his back to me.
Fucking hated him dismissing me. But that was what our relationship had become. One dismissal after another.
Nyx’s hand reached out, grabbing Liam. “Sorry to hear about your dad dying. That sucks.”
Liam pulled Nyx into his arms, and I felt a growl roll up from my chest. “He was a bastard and needed to die. No loss in the world, baby girl. Not a single tear fell for him. He got those when I was little, not now. Never again.”
“There’s a huge story there,” she said to him, looking up, and fuck me, they were going to kiss.
I could see it. I could feel it. That underlying connection these two had. The admiration. Dare I even say love. Fuck. The history between them was blaring in my face.
I wanted to kill him for touching her once again. Yeah, he’d go down. Right? I wanted to take him away from Nyx… Or did I. It was fucking with my head. Not good for a man with a shit ton on his shoulders to have all this swirling around.
The screen above them flashed on, showing me a picture of who was making an entrance, so when the main door swung open swiftly, Liam pushed Nyx behind him and pulled out the gun from his holster, pointing that direction.
