While Liam knew of these missions, he hadn’t officially come into the fold yet. Therefore, he didn’t know nearly everything. Just the shit that dealt with Nyx. It would be good to be able to talk to him about the day to day that Ravage handled.
I also thought that Cruz wanted to give Liam the chance to back out if the club life wasn’t for him. Liam was a cop after all. They had a very different set of rules they followed. One that was right or wrong. Not that Cruz would just allow him to jump ship easily. Nor would I.
What Ravage believed was right, as in protecting our family at all costs, might not be on the legal level with the shit we had to do.
But I knew Liam. Knew that his sense of right and wrong aligned with ours. He’d do anything to protect Nyx and me. Anything. He’d already proven it. Over and over again.
To prove that to Cruz was his next task. I knew that Liam was up for the challenge. He was strong in his convictions.
He hadn’t put in his resignation yet, per my request. Thompson was sneaky, and I didn’t want anything getting back to him. Wouldn’t it look suspicious if Thompson saw Liam here then all of a sudden, he quits and moves here? Yeah. It would.
It would put a bigger target on my family’s backs. Not happening.
Therefore he used his vacation time.
Once this mission was accomplished, he could officially move to Sumner. And we could really start our own family. The three of us.
Never thought I’d say those words. But here we were.
And I was ready for it.
The SUV stopped in the woods and killed its lights.
“Go time,” Deke called out.
I quickly double checked my weapons then made sure Liam was covered.
“I know what I’m doin’, Raid,” he growled low at me. Yes, he was a man. Yes, he could take care of himself. Yes, he was strong, smart, and competent.
None of that negated the fact that I was highly protective of him. It was a different kind of protective. Not exactly like my brothers. No, this was different and not something I wanted to evaluate fully in this moment.
“I know. Relax.”
“I will when you stop treating me like a damn child,” he growled low and got out of the SUV.
It was true. I was. Not that I’d tell him that.
I climbed out right behind him, his back to me. Grabbing his arm, I pulled him around and slammed my lips onto his.
His hand came up and cupped the back of my head as he kissed me back with all the passion I remembered from the man so long ago. Actually, it was more. He was stronger. More aggressive. More powerful. Made my fucking cock twitch and harden against my zipper.
I pulled away and looked into his eyes. “That’s why. Not because you’re a fuckin’ child. Because your mine. It’s how it is.”
He stared back at me, dazed, then I slapped his ass to pull him out of whatever stupor he was in.
“Dick,” he said, pulling away, but I could see the glimmer in his eyes and the smirk on his face in the moonlight.
This was definitely the start of our lives. I felt it down to my bones. And that kiss … it was electric. I needed more. A lot more.
“Let’s go,” Ax said low, motioning with his hands as we made our way through the woods. Liam was in front of me while Nox had the rear.
The house up ahead was completely dark on the outside and only had a light on in the master bedroom that shone through the curtain.
Sandy stood at the back door, arms crossed, waiting behind the screen. “About time. I need to brush my teeth.”
“He’s still out?” Deke asked.
“Yeah. And tied up. Wanted to make sure he didn’t get away.”
