“Was he able to fix the problem?”
Her eyes came to mine, seeming a bit shocked I asked that question, and it made me curious to know what she was thinking. “Umm … yeah…”
“If he didn’t fix it, Nyx, I want you to tell me, and I’ll take care of it for you.”
She let out a long breath. “Thank you for that. But Screech said he handled it.”
“You’ll come to me if you need help?” I asked, not realizing how much I wanted her to say yes, she’d come to me.
She didn’t answer. The silence was almost deafening.
Nyx moved past me and made her way to the living room, sitting in the gray chair. Fuck, that chair had some damn good memories, and I couldn’t wait to have a replay later.
I made my way to the couch and took a seat facing her.
“I should’ve asked you if you wanted anything to drink, but I’m a self-service kinda woman at home.” While I was grateful the woman didn’t lie to me, she wasn’t the most forthcoming person, and that bothered me.
My head shook. “You’ll come to me if you need any help, Nyx?” I repeated.
She held the glass of water in her hand, while her legs were curled up underneath her. Beautiful. Just sitting in a damn chair. Nyx looked me straight in the eye, not backing down. I loved this part of her. Maybe not what she was about to say, but her strength was admirable.
“I can’t answer yes to that, Raid. I know you want me to. I can see it in your gaze, but I can’t. You’ve been in my bed, but that doesn’t give you a free access pass to all the details of my life.”
I leaned forward and put my elbows on my knees, peering right in her stunning eyes. They had this strangely sexy almost bluish-purple color. They pulled me in like magnets.
She was so close I could reach out and touch her but didn’t. Nyx needed to hear what I had to say. Needed to take it in. Absorb it. It was too important.
“You like my family?” I asked, and her head shook, which I almost took as no until she answered.
“Yeah, but what does that…”
I held up my hand. “Did you like the clubhouse?”
She shrugged. “It was fine.”
“What about my brothers, both club and blood?” I fired at her.
“Some are a bit rough, but they all care about you. They love you.”
A smile tipped my lip. “Yeah. They do.”
I reached out and took her hand. “Come here.”
“Can’t I…?”
I rose quickly, cutting off her words, picked her up, then sat down in the gray chair with her on my lap, not dropping a drop of her water. She needed to be close to me. Even that small distance was too much.
“Raid!” she squealed, but I swore I heard a small smile there.
“Need you to be close, Nyx. Can you do that for me?” I asked, her face so close to mine that I leaned in and gave her a soft kiss, then pulled back. It wasn’t enough, but it needed to be for now.
Her expression softened. “Yeah, I can do that. It’s not like sitting on your lap is a chore or something.”
This made me chuckle. “Thank God for that one.”
A small smile tipped her lips, and I fucking loved it. It lit her face.
“I wanna make you smile every day, Nyx.” Her eyes went vacant, and she stared off into space. “Nyx?”
