More fucking waiting.

A second felt like a damn hour, and I kept watching the lights on the servers and hoping like fuck we saw green.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Time stretched. Tension grew. And I was about to come out of my fucking skin.

One by one the screens changed.

The red slowly disappeared, and the screens illuminated one by one until every screen in the room flashed green.

“Fuck me.” Micah sighed deep. He must’ve been holding his breath too.

“So, we’re good?” I asked, my chest still tight.

“It’ll take a bit for everything to load, but I think we are. We’ll need to run scans on everything.”

Deke sat to the left of Micah, and I took the right. “Alright, where should we start?”

“Raid, check the business books. Deke, check the security. I’ll do the data,” Micah ordered like he was a drill sergeant. This time I’d let it go just because of how relieved I was. Fuck, I just hoped that nothing was amiss.

The security camera from the awning area came up, and Nyx was right there, her blonde hair flying back as she laughed once again. It physically hurt to not be out there with her, and the push and pull to stay or go had never been an issue for me. It was riding me hard tonight.

I just hoped like fuck the system would be okay, so I could go home with her.

But it wasn’t looking good.

NYX

Holy hell. What did I get myself into?

Girl time?

These women were closer than sisters, and I’d thought as soon as they sat me down they’d start peppering me with questions. But that wasn’t what happened, and I was surprisingly happy.

“Remember when he was three, and he tossed all his clothes off and ran through the clubhouse yelling ‘free the balls!’” Shaina, Raid’s aunt, said on a laugh. “And all you could see was his little baby butt floating around.”

“Oh yeah. But what about when Raid let the crickets go in the garage,” Tanner, Rhys’ woman said. “Rhys was so pissed.”

“And they made him find all of them, but he never did. Took him weeks and weeks,” Princess added in.

“Buzz had him searching every inch of that place. They say they still hear cricket sounds inside the building,” Bella added to the story.

Laughter. That was what these women gave me.

No judgment. No questions. Just fun.

Story after story about Raid growing up here in the Ravage MC. And they probably wouldn’t be the stories that Raid would tell me himself. These were more of the teasing and crazy memories.

One story after the other, and I felt like I’d been there with them watching Raid do his crazy shit.

With them. This group of very strong women.

The ease amongst the group, the way they carried on with me like I was a part of something, part of a sisterhood, it gave me this warmth I had never felt before. I hadn’t belonged in so long, I’d forgotten it could be like this.

Emery jumped in. “How about when Raid put blue dye in my shampoo, making me a Smurf.”
