We get out of the car, and E.A. looks around before he gestures to Beth to lead the way to her building. There are a few students scattered across the campus grounds, but none of them look like they’re up to no good, and none of them resemble Marcus.
If that kid has even a lick of sense, he won’t try anything.
Given how rich his parents are, if he goes home and they convince him to do the right thing, he’ll probably get a slap on the wrist. If he does anything else, he might earn himself a real punishment.
He seemed like an idiot, but I doubt he’s that much of an idiot.
Beth leads us toward her dorm, and I walk with her while E.A. walks behind us.
“So, that guy is your mate, huh?” Beth asks, keeping her voice low.
“He’s one of them,” I admit.
She blinks at me. “One of them?”
“Turns out, I have four,” I tell her.
“No fucking way,” she murmurs. “I thought that was super rare.”
“It kind of is, but the city’s a big place. There are more packs here.”
“Well, I’d say I’m jealous, except I’m not really a fan of Alphas.”
“I wouldn’t have called myself a fan, either,” I confess.
“I guess that one’s okay,” Beth says, nodding back at E.A.
“He’s better than okay, and he’s not my only Alpha.”
“I can’t even imagine having two Alphas.” She shakes her head.
We reach her dorm, and she stops. “We don’t really think he’ll have come here to wait for me, do we?”
“It’s unlikely,” I tell her, not sure that’s true but not wanting to scare her.
“We just have to be careful,” E.A. adds.
“Okay,” Beth says, nodding. “Let’s go.”
Chapter Sixty-Seven
E.A.
Beth tells me where her room is, and I go ahead of her, leaving Leanne to walk behind us. It doesn’t matter what position my mate is in, it all feels wrong and like I should be at her side. I ignore that instinct as I move quickly up the stairs to Beth’s dorm room, but it doesn’t just disappear.
The need to protect her is too strong.
I wait for her to come out of the stairwell before I move to the door of Beth’s room.
It’s ajar, and that feels suspicious. I push it in quickly and step inside.
The lights flicker on a second later and I blink as I take in the room.
There’s stuff scattered all over the floor and the beds; clothing, and beauty supplies, and school books. The place looks like it’s been ransacked.
“It looks like he’s already been and gone,” I admit.
“It does?” Beth asks as she pushes past me. “How?”
