Andrei grunts.

Once he sees her, he freezes.

She’s wearing a short, dark purple skater dress. If she leans over, the hem will creep up over her ass. The deep neckline plunges all the way down to her belly button. The fishnet stockings and platform heels make the entire outfit sexy as fuck.

“Holy shit, Marlena,” I say. “That dress looks amazing on you.”

She brushes her short curls behind her ears and runs her hand over her hip.

“I wasn’t sure it would fit, but I squeezed my ass into it.” She tugs at the neckline, trying to keep her breasts from popping out. “It’s not too much though, right? I want to blend.”

“Has Viktor seen this?” Andrei asks, amusement lingering in his words.

“Why would it matter if he did?” Marlena puts a hand on her hip.

“Leave her alone, Andrei.” I grab my purse from the chair. As I walk past him, he snags my arm and pulls me to him. His mouth crashes down on mine, sending my heartbeat into a spiral.

When he breaks the kiss, he lines up his gaze with mine. My heartbeat thuds in my ears.

“Be good down there, Izzy.” He moves his hand to my ass.

My face ignites in an inferno.

“You don’t have to keep threatening me with that,” I whisper at him.

He grins. “It’s not a threat.” He winks. “Now go. I have a meeting.” He releases me and the door swings open.

Viktor stands there. His eyes hit Marlena and go wide.

“All right, so bye!” Marlena waves at Andrei, ducks her head, and shimmies past Viktor and out the door. I sling my purse over my chest and hurry behind her down the hall to the elevator.

“He looked really mad,” I say to her when we’re inside the elevator.

“He probably is.” She clears her throat. “He asked me out, and I said no.”

“You said no?” I blink. “And he accepted that?” I need her secrets.

“Not really. But what’s he going to do, sling me over his shoulder and drag me away to a cave?”

I laugh. “Yeah, exactly that.”

The elevator doors slide open, and the heavy beat of the music fills the small space.

“He’ll get over it.” She grabs my wrist and pulls me out. “Forget him. Forget Andrei. Let’s just have some fun.”

Before we can get two steps away from the elevator, Igor points to the VIP lounge. We follow and let him order us two bottles of wine before we announce we’re going to dance.

The dance floor is beyond crowded, so we move along the edges until we find a spot where we won’t get drinks poured on us.

It only takes two songs before we’re both finished with trying to move among the masses. Marlena points to the VIP section and makes a motion with her hand that she wants a drink. Feeling slightly parched myself, I follow her back to our table.

Igor is right behind us. At least he’s good about making himself scarce. I didn’t even know he was there while we were dancing.

“How’s the memory journal going?” Marlena asks once we’re in our booth with glasses of wine in front of us.

I shrug. “So far, nothing is coming back. It’s weird and it’s pissing me off.”

She pours another drink. “It will come, don’t force it. You said the doctor doesn’t want it to all just pour back in, right?”
