Page 12 of Drive Her Wild

Splitting another bottle of wine, she suffers through learning more about her brother than she probably ever wanted to know as well as part of the reason I left my life in Calgary. But by the time it is empty and she’s getting into an Uber, she has convinced me to call him.

Chapter Nine

JACKSON

Laying on the couch, I’ve been wallowing in my feelings since the garage. Even though I asked Charlie to help me out, I haven’t heard a word – from either of them.

My heart nearly jumps out of my chest when my phone finally dings again.

CHARLIE

She’s going to collar you. Shit. No. Don’t send. That’s not what I said.

CALL YOU

But maybe you’d be into that, cuz damn.

Wait! Gross.

I momentarily forgot how nasty that is

Are you drunk Charlie?

I’m going to take that as a yes.

Wait! How much did she tell you?

Way too fucking much.

Like, I think you’ve been disinvited from Thanksgiving.

I don’t think I can look at you and manage to stomach food.

Just remember, the sperm donor used to be my friend.

I’ve known WAY more about my baby sister than I ever wanted to for years.

On that note, I think we vow to never speak about this again.

Deal.

Laying on the couch with Daisy, I aimlessly doom-scroll on my phone, waiting for Amaya to call. I must dose off at some point because the next thing I know, the sun is peaking through the windows.

Taking a second to brush my teeth and spritz on a little cologne, I make my way to the truck with Daisy.

First stop: The Reindeer Café

After a short chat with Helly about what the new vet in town likes, I leave with a dozen assorted pastries, a crème brulée latte, and black coffee.

Second stop: Amaya’s place

Pulling up to the sidewalk in front of her place, my phone dings. I reach into my coat pocket and retrieve it to find she sent me a text.

AMAYA

Can I give you a call?

No.
