“You’re very beautiful. Have you ever thought of becoming an escort yourself?”

“Me?” I gasp. She nods and smiles at me indulgently as I shake my head no. “No, never.”

“Do you want to?”

“I – I – I wouldn’t be any good at it,” I mumble.

“Why do you say that?” She asks.

“I’ve never… um,” I say stumbling through my words with a cherry-red face. “I’m not ex–experienced.”

“Are you saying you’re a virgin dear?”

Am I on another planet right now? Strangers don’t just ask you if you’d like to be an escort or if you're a virgin, do they? I guess in this world they do.

“Nevermind, the look on your face tells me everything I want to know.” She says patting my hand. “Listen, a few times a year I hold a special auction for my clients. My girls make a lot of money, life-changing money. You look like the kind of girl who could benefit from that kind of arrangement.”

“What would I have to do?” I ask, already knowing it’s going to be something I’m not going to be comfortable with. But she said life-changing money and that’s exactly what I need right now.

“I auction off a girl’s virginity.”

“You what?” I gasp, drawing the quizzical looks of several patrons. “Is that even legal?” I ask in a hushed tone not wanting anyone to hear me.

Madame Lilith throws her head back and laughs. “No one is going to jail over it if that’s what you’re implying.”

“I don’t know what to say. I need to go check on my other tables,” I mumble walking away.

I leave Madame Lilith and her crazy proposition for the next little while, helping the rest of my customers. It gets so busy that it’s a little while before I’m able to get back to her and by that time, my manager has already settled her tab. The table is empty except for the black server book.

When I pick it up, I open it and see she’s left me a hundred dollar tip and her card. On the back of the card is a note scrawled in beautiful script.

Call me if you want to know more.

I hope to hear from you soon.

- Madame Lilith

I slip the card into my pocket and go about the rest of my night, all the while wondering if I should take her up on her offer.
