Purple was my favorite color, and he’d obviously remembered me mentioning that, too.
The craftsmanship of the table was amazing, and I thought it was the most beautiful piece of furniture I’d ever seen.
It would look amazing in the music room.
“I wanted you to see it before you go because it’s a gift to you,” he said huskily. “I still have to do some work on it, so it won’t be done before you leave.”
Tears spilled from my eyes and down my cheeks.
Kaleb wrapped his arm around my waist. “Hey, this isn’t supposed to make you cry. I thought you’d like it because you refuse to set your coffee on the grand piano.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck and hopped up, knowing that Kaleb would grab my ass to keep me steady. “It’s absolutely beautiful,” I said with a happy sob. “I think it’s the best gift I’ve ever received. I thought you stopped woodworking.”
He’d obviously found time to work on the table while I was writing music or when he made those long trips out to the barn in the evening.
It was so thoughtful and sweet that I couldn’t help bawling all over him.
He probably didn’t realize that people didn’t usually give me gifts this personal.
I snuggled into his warmth, getting as close as possible to this thoughtful man.
He chuckled. “I thought Mom’s picture was your best gift ever.”
“It’s still in the top two,” I shared. “But this is definitely the best.”
“I actually haven’t done any woodworking in years,” Kaleb said contemplatively. “I guess your creativity inspired me. Or maybe it was just you who inspired me. I’m glad you like it.”
I lifted my hand and swiped the tears from my face. “Thank you. I know how valuable your free time is, Kaleb. You’ll probably never know how much this means to me.”
I leaned down and kissed him, pouring all the love and affection I had for him into that kiss.
When I finally lifted my head, he grinned at me. “If that’s my reward, I’m making furniture for you for the entire house.”
I loved the way that he just assumed that his home was my home, too.
He’d made that table for the music room, a room that he always referred to as my music room. Just like he referred to that beautiful grand piano as my piano.
I moved my hips against his very hard erection. “I think you’ll be a little too busy to be making more furniture. But I love the table.”
He slapped my ass playfully. “Behave,” he warned me.
“Never,” I said with a happy laugh as I buried my face in the side of his neck and nipped his skin.
He grinned. “Fuck! You make me happy, Anna, even if you are a very bad girl.”
My heart squeezed inside my chest. Kaleb made me happy, too. So much so that I couldn’t really express it in words. “I’d think I’d really like to see how you handle bad girls right now.”
“Done!” he answered in a husky voice and proceeded to carry me all the way back to the house.
Kaleb
I really hated attending a goodbye party when I was trying like hell to stay in denial about Anna leaving the next day.
Nevertheless, I was here, and so was Anna.
I watched her as she fluttered around my mother’s backyard, talking to every person present like she was honored that they’d shown up just for her.
Hell, she probably did feel lucky that everyone who had been invited had come to the barbecue.
