I downed the pills with some water, and then reached for the small flask.
As soon as I unscrewed the cap, I recognized the scent of one of Silas’s specialty coffees, and I already knew the muffin was from Charlie’s. I’d had one before when I was in town, and I’d mentioned to Kaleb how much I loved it.
I filled the mug and started to drink the coffee.
I was slightly queasy, but it wasn’t bad enough that I felt like I was going to throw up.
My main problem was the excruciating headache I was experiencing and some major brain fog.
I tried to remember what had happened the night before as I drank the coffee and slowly ate small pieces of the muffin.
I clearly remembered eating at Charlie’s and going to The Mug And Jug afterwards, but the details of our time at the bar were a little sketchy after I’d finished that first slugger.
I vaguely remembered Kaleb getting me up to dance. That’s when all that alcohol had hit me.
I only recalled little flashes of the events after that, and I wasn’t sure if I’d imagined those things or if they were fact.
Clearly, he’d helped me upstairs. I was in my regular pajamas, sleep shorts and a T-shirt. I didn’t remember changing my clothes, but I vaguely recalled Kaleb helping me into my bed.
Shit! What had possessed me to drink that much hard alcohol? I wasn’t a drinker, and I was a lightweight, even with wine or beer.
Yes, I’d wanted to try the cocktail because it was iconic in Crystal Fork, but I hadn’t needed to drink the entire thing and then order another one.
Maybe I’d momentarily lost my mind because it was killing me to be with Kaleb without wanting more.
So. Much. More.
I’d been a little edgy when a number of pretty women had stared at him when he’d walked into the bar.
Kaleb might not be interested in the single women in town, but they definitely noticed him.
What healthy female wouldn’t notice Kaleb Remington when he was around?
He was gorgeous, wealthy, and had a commanding presence that drew every female gaze in the room. He also had a droolworthy, naturally ripped body that came from working outdoors rather than a gym.
Yeah, he spent a lot of time at work, but he was in the barn with the horses every evening, tossing around heavy masses of hay and grain, and tending to some of the barn work himself.
He also helped the local ranchers and farmers whenever they needed it.
Kaleb wasn’t a guy who was averse to getting his hands dirty as often as necessary, and his dirty, sweaty look made me think about exactly how he’d look after burning up the sheets in bed for several hours.
I couldn’t help it, and it had irritated the hell out of me when I knew I wasn’t the only woman in Crystal Fork who thought about that.
He was, after all, single and available.
A single woman would have to be crazy not to think about what it would be like to be with a man like him.
I guess I’d needed a drink at The Mug And Jug to chill me out.
However, I hadn’t needed to drink that much.
I was paying for my utter foolishness today, and it sucked.
Doing stupid things was something I generally avoided. I’d probably done more ridiculously dumb things in the last several weeks than I’d done in my entire life.
I stayed regimented.
Focused.
