I moved my hand to the small of her back and brought her pelvis closer to me. “Feel that?” I rasped against her ear.
I’d never wanted to hide how I felt about her, but we’d never had a really frank and dirty discussion about it, either.
Her eyes widened. “Yes,” she said with a small moan as she pressed even closer.
“That’s how it is for me every time I’m in the same room with you, Anna. I see attractive women often, but they don’t make my cock instantly hard the way you do. There’s always been something about you that makes me absolutely crazy. Just you.”
She smiled as she kept her gaze locked with mine. “I feel the same way. Being with you has always felt right, even when we barely knew each other. Maybe that doesn’t make sense, but I really don’t care. I’ve stopped trying to figure out why I desperately need you to fuck me senseless.”
My eyes closed, and I pulled her head back to my shoulder.
Maybe those seductive eyes were currently blue, but I still couldn’t stand to see the need in her eyes without wanting to sate it.
It killed me.
“You obviously don’t want to talk about this,” she said, not hiding the longing in her sexy voice.
“Not right now,” I said in a graveled voice.
If she told me that she wanted me to fuck her one more time, I’d end up carrying her out of here like a possessive caveman.
I was barely holding onto my sanity right now.
“Okay,” she said agreeably. “What should we talk about?”
After that brief and tantalizing discussion, I wasn’t sure I could get my mind off our former topic.
“Devon’s playing is incredible,” she commented. “Does he play with this band often?”
My tense body relaxed a fraction. “Hardly ever,” I replied, relieved that she’d moved to a safer discussion. “Only when the guitar player can’t make a gig. He’s always willing to substitute for any guitar player for any band. It’s weird, but he’s always been able to switch styles to suit the circumstances.”
“So he’s basically a chameleon when it comes to styles and genres?” she asked curiously. “That’s hard to do.”
“I would think so, but he likes and plays all kinds of music.”
“Why do you think Tanner left so early?” she asked. “He was here briefly, and then he was gone.”
I was fairly certain I knew exactly why Tanner had left so abruptly, not that he ever lingered all that long at the bar.
“Do you remember when I told you that Tanner had come closest to getting married once?” I asked her.
She nodded against my shoulder. “Yes.”
“The woman who dumped him moved back to town very recently. She’s here. He says he doesn’t care. He said it’s water under the bridge that happened a long time ago, but I think it still bothers him to run into her.”
“Oh, my God. Do you think she’s taunting him? Where is she?” Anna questioned urgently, her words slightly slurred from the alcohol she’d consumed.
I subtly pointed her out.
“She’s really pretty,” Anna commented as she squinted to see the female across the room. “But she’s obviously a viper. She has a lot of nerve coming back here after she dumped a good man like Tanner. He should have stayed and danced with every pretty girl here just to show her that he’s moved on.”
“I agree,” I told her. “But that’s not Tanner.”
“You’re right. I don’t think he’d ever deliberately be an asshole to anyone.”
Oh, Tanner could be a manipulative businessman at work when he needed to be, but she was right. In his personal life, Tanner wasn’t a vindictive kind of guy.
It was interesting just how well Anna had gotten to know my brothers and their personalities within a relatively short period of time.
