But a shot rang out a second later, again from Aaron.
Jonah whipped his head around, frowning.
“They can’t know we’re all working together, or that Aurora and Olivia are alive. None of them can leave here alive,” Aaron told him.
Movement caught my eye through the kitchen door and as I went to react, two more robes burst through, ripping the door off its hinges.
As I burst into the fray with Jonah joining me to beat them back, a crash sounded in the other direction and I looked to see the patio doors shattering as four more robes pushed on through.
As Aaron and Aurora snapped into action over there, Asher urged Lance, “Hurry. Don’t be gentle about it. Rip the fucking thing out.”
Lance hissed, then dropped the scalpel and snatched up the tweezers.
As I kicked back an attacker, I looked to see Lance literally digging into Asher’s flesh with them. Fuck me.
“There. I see it,” I heard Asher grunting.
In my peripheral vision, I saw a tiny rectangular piece of metal being pulled from his wrist. Lance dropped it on the table, drew his gun, then crushed it to pieces with the butt.
Olivia was there then, hurriedly dabbing on some antiseptic, then wrapping Ash’s wound.
As more robes burst through the door coming at me and Jonah, I hauled one into Jonah, who caught him, spun him around and slammed his head down onto one of the kitchen counters. He then ripped a butcher’s knife out of the knife block and stabbed it deep into the back of his throat and out the other side. With a snarl, he ripped it out and the guy slumped onto the tile, blood spurting from a fatal wound. Damn.
J was definitely in Savage mode right now.
That became the least of it when I pistol whipped another coming at me, kicked him back, then fired off a bullet through his chest and turned as he dropped to his knees to see Asher now over by Aurora and Aaron and literally tearing into an attacker with his blade. The guy’s guts were spilling out and even then as he collapsed, Asher jumped on him, doing further damage. His beast was unleashed in all its destructive and absolutely sadistic glory.
It was actually just what we needed right now as the house became overrun, the Infidels forcing their way into the house, keeping on coming like cockroaches, trying to overwhelm us.
As another came at Asher’s back, he sensed it, spun around while straddling the guy and caught a boot that had been aiming for his head, likely to knock him out so they could abduct him as Carson and my piece of shit father intended. He slammed it back with a snarl, then jumped to his feet as the guy stumbled. He executed one of his brutal spinning kicks that send the guy careening into the kitchen table. Lance was there then, finishing him off, by slamming the guy’s face into the table, then putting a bullet in his brain.
I looked out to see Aurora and Aaron working in concert to take out five guys surrounding them and attacking all at once. She was bringing out her rapid-fire moves that prevented her opponents from being able to get in any damage to her, or to break through her offense.
She spun one of the guys toward Aaron who kicked them over to the patio doors, then angled him just right before he slammed the door closed, effectively breaking his neck with a nasty sharp crack.
Through making sure everyone else was okay, I took a hit to the side of the face from one opponent, then a kick to the gut from another, the combo slamming me back into the wall. I hit the back of my head and it disorientated me for a second, which cost me another hit to the face that had my head snapping to the side. It enabled one of the two to get up close and wrap their hands around my throat, stealing my breath and trying to choke me out.
“Killian!” I heard Aurora screaming.
There was nothing she could do, she was still immersed in battle.
So was Jonah and he roared, tossing one of his opponents across the room, just as another two jumped on him, trying to drive him down. All I could see as I looked out at Asher was blood. Every fucking where. Drenching his hands, splattered on his clothes, his face, dampening his hair. His knife was dripping with it and all his downed opponents were bleeding out all over the floor. He roared like an animal as four more encircled him.
I shoved my hands up to break the grip of the guy trying to choke me out, but the other guy wrenched them down before I could even make contact.
“Dad!” Aurora’s voice rang out again through the chaos.
In the next second, the guy pinning my hands down shrieked and jerked as a bullet tore into his throat, blood spraying over my face from it.
Just as I looked to see Olivia standing there, her gun still in firing position, the guy choking me out was wrenched back with a shitload of power.
As I choked and wiped the blood out of my face, I looked to see Lance literally destroying the guy with his fists, then putting an end to his life with a stab and a twist through his chest with his tactical knife.
Lance eyed me as he spun the knife in his hand. “You’ve got some impressive power and I see some combat training coming through, but you’re too easily distracted—by my daughter.”
“I was just—”
“Worried about her? Yes, I understand, believe me.” He thumbed her as she wailed on her opponents. “But she’s got this. You know she does too. Focus on that.”
