It was the first time we’d ever seen the sweet old woman angry.

Apparently, she was right. But why come back here now? And what was she doing on that big-ass property?

“Colton, has there been any movement over there?” He nods.

“Shit ton. The house has been redone. The property was fenced in, and a guard post was added about a month ago. Armed guards have been sitting in it twenty-four-seven for the last two weeks.” Interesting.

I glance at Seer.

“That doesn’t sound suspicious at all,” Abel says, cracking his fingers.

We clear a hill, and the property in question comes into view.

When Colton said fence he failed to mention it was rough iron as thick as my arms. When I get close to the entrance, and the guards realize I’m not stopping, they jump out of the way.

“Sorry, Dad,” I say as I crash the truck through the gates.

We all jump out and draw our guns, pointing them at the two guards.

Blaze grabs one by the throat and lifts him off the ground. He shakes him and screams in his face.

“The babies! Where are they?” The guard grabs at his arm, trying to breathe, but points at the house.

Blaze flings him away, landing on the broken fence.

“Let’s move.” I jog up to the house and push open the front door like I own the place.

It’s empty.

Seer puts his finger in front of his lips and then taps his ear. We all listen. The only sound is coming from below us. It sounds like a tv, and then we hear it.

A baby crying.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

GLITCH

It’s been six hours since Kooper called.

I lost the fight on keeping the TV off hours ago, so we all know what’s happening on the Justice Ranch. They keep repeating phrases like ‘presumed dead,’ and the consent ticker on the bottom of the screen is no better.

Mallory has gone from crying to looking like a zombie from the shock.

She kicked her family out two hours ago and has just been staring at the TV in this catatonic state. I wish I could help her.

Everyone who gets near her she’s attacking.

“You should leave the club.” Her voice sounds detached.

“What?” She blinks and looks at me.

“Leave now why you can protect your baby. Safe yourself from this.” I can’t even begin to know how to answer this.

I climb out of my bed and get into hers. I hug her to me, and she starts to sob. I rock us until the door opens.

“GET OUT!” I call out without looking.

“Darlin’?” I stop rocking and turn to see Kooper standing with Blaze.
