Did any of that matter now?

She wasn’t sure.

She definitely couldn’t make any decisions with Ash and Piers watching her so closely.

Even as the thought crossed her mind, her heart gave a hard squeeze. She wanted to be with them right now.

First, she had business to attend to.

Quickly, she led the horse to the paddock. After running a brush over its coat to clean away the sweat from their ride, she turned the mare loose to munch grass.

At the bungalow, she was relieved to find the men were out. She didn’t know what to say to them yet, so it was a relief to be alone a while longer.

After a fast shower, she donned a clean set of clothes and set out for the office.

She hadn’t visited this building yet, but it was sided in logs just like the other buildings on the ranch.

When she located the office, a pretty blonde looked up from her computer with a welcoming smile. “Hi! What brings you here today? Is your stay to your liking?”

A movement from the corner of Sylvee’s eye made her glance away from the blonde speaking to her. Her stare settled on Avril.

The woman really was striking. No wonder so many cowboys wanted to spend their free time with her. She had a pull that any man would find attractive.

Her own hand crept toward her belly. She could be wearing that glow herself in a few months.

She gave Avril a nod and then turned to the blonde woman. “I’m here to see Hugh and Riggs.”

Her large hazel eyes widened. “Oh. That’s unexpected. But sure. If you don’t mind waiting in the conference room, I’ll give them a buzz.”

Avril jumped in. “I’ll show her the way.”

The room was spacious, with a rustic feel that fit the rest of the ranch. Avril waved toward the long table. “Just have a seat. The guys will be here soon.”

She offered her client a smile. “Thank you.”

Avril paused beside her, an expression of indecision pinching her brows. She started to turn back to the door and then spun back and threw her arms around Sylvee.

Shocked, Sylvee squeezed her in return.

“Thank you for helping me!”

Her heart lightened. She may not know what path to take in her personal life, with Piers and Ash, a baby or Alaska…but she knew how to use her knowledge of the law to help people.

Chapter Fifteen

Sylvee had been in some stressful situations while defending a client. After years of intimidation tactics and facing down know-it-all, grumpy males, she had a knack for picking out who would give her trouble and who would not.

From the minute Hugh and Riggs walked into the conference room, she knew she had Avril’s argument in the bag.

She wasn’t quite ready to gloat yet, nor pop some sparkling water with Avril in celebration, but the men who ran The Boot Knockers Ranch seemed to be open to what she was saying to them.

After a half hour of discussion, they each nodded. They all stood and shook hands. Then, shoulders thrown back, Sylvee exited the room.

As she passed Avril’s small office, the woman popped her head up from her work, a question in her wide eyes.

Sylvee gave her a thumbs-up. Avril did a small fist pump and seemed to melt in her desk chair with relief.

Grinning, Sylvee threw her a wave and walked out of the office.
