“What about Giddy?” she asked when she reached her building and he turned to go.
“The dog walker will bring him back to your house tomorrow afternoon,” he said, all businesslike. “See you and ignore you tomorrow at work.” It was what she told him the other night, but she didn’t like that he threw it back at her.
“See you,” she said and walked upstairs to her empty house. This was for the best, but she still wished he smiled a goodbye.
Trouble In Berdiplast
(50 days to end of year finish line, 24 days to new position)
27. Tamar
For the first time in what felt like forever, but was less than ten days, Tamar didn’t have to wake up to take down her puppy. She woke up anyway and stretched luxuriously, thinking of last night.
Last night she came back home from Gideon’s and couldn’t relax. So, she rinsed the living room’s floor, thinking how patient he had been taking her clothes off, how he truly liked what he saw. During her attack on her bathroom’s tiles, she recalled how good his cock felt inside her, better than any sex toy. She scrubbed off her toaster-oven and wished it had ended differently. He acted all cold when she wouldn’t spend the night.
This morning, the house was tidy and as neat as it should be. She took out Giddy’s poof to the balcony and aired it. Washed all his toys. Maybe she would pass by the pet store and buy him dog biscuits for this afternoon when he came back home.
The research department was empty because she had arrived very early, but Nathanela’s office was lighted. Tamar hurried to catch N for a chat. Her boss told her she could ask for her advice as often as she wanted, but she hadn’t taken advantage of it yet.
“Good morning Tamar,” N said brightly. “You look lovely! Being a contender certainly agrees with you.”
“I’m drinking scented geranium water. It’s very good for the skin,” Tamar answered. What was she going to say—I’m glowing due to multiple orgasms?
“Are you ready for Eilat? I hope you’ll feel better on the bus.”
Tamar would get nauseous on buses. Last year, on the way to the Galilee, the bus had to stop three times on her behalf, everyone watching as she puked on the roadside.
“Yeah, I won’t eat anything before.”
“You look so depressed.” N laughed. “This is part of being in management, Tamar, mingling and taking part in company events.”
“Do you think they’ll accept me? Management? As one of their own?”
“You’ll need to befriend them. Gabby from IT is new and younger. You’ll get along with Moishe from Investments, an impatient old timer, but thoroughly professional and hates bullshit. Shay from the brokerage is a darling, but his wife has been really sick lately. He’s been absent a lot. Ada from HR is only slightly older than you, and she is a sweetheart, so get to know her. She is young at her job, arrived a couple of months before Keynan, and they don’t get along too well. You could support each other.”
“Nathanela, when you got the job, you had small children, right? How did you manage?”
